monthly postcard and thanks page
Added 2022-03-28 03:05:07 +0000 UTChello, i have sent out the monthly postcard and updated the thanks page on my website.
i am doing this early this month because i found out that a friend of mine has passed away and i drew the postcard to process everything, and i don't think i am doing ok right now so i want to get this out in case i forget to do it later.
the postcard is a picture of freya, a character from coffee talk.
i'm going to talk about my friend a bit below because i still can't believe it and i am trying to organise my thoughts. please do not feel obligated to read it.
i first met fahmi years ago at bitsummit, an indie game festival in japan. he was in the country to show off a demo of a game he worked on called coffee talk. it immediately caught my eye so i went to play and then got to chat, and when we exchanged business cards it turned out that he knew me, because he'd played one of my games (penguin cafe) when looking up various coffee-related games for reference for his game!
we got to talking every once in a while as devs who made games in english but didn't live in the so-called "west". the last time we'd talked, he'd shared a demo with me on a new game he was working on, and i was so excited for it, as was he.
i am shocked that he's gone. i can't believe it. he was still so young and had so much he still wanted to do. i am glad we had the chance to meet but so sad that we won't get to meet again.
rest in peace, fahmi.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Take all the time that you need to process everything and grieve. Hugs (if you're ok with virtual hugs from internet stranger).
