The EDS and yeast connection

This is particularly important post/info to know if you have a diagnosed connective tissue disorder (or you know you have mutations in genetive tissue genes) and are struggling to eradicated something like Candida/yeast

6 years ago, I made the connection between connective tissue disorders like EDS (ehlers danlos), mitral valve prolapse, and reoccurent, systemic Candida and fungal infections ancedotelly. This was after analyzing over 20 clients who had done an iridology exam. Iridology (in my experience) seems to be extremely reliable for diagnosing mitral valve prolapse, genetiv connective tissue disorder predispositions and fungal infections. Many clients who were diagnosed with those connective tissue disorders (mitral valve prolapse (often associated with hyper-mobility and EDS) seemed to be particularly suspetible to reoccurent yeast and fungal infections.

To my surprise, this connect was also validated apparently 40 years earlier by dr in the book ‘The Yeast Connection’. (If you think you have an original idea, you’re probably wrong lol)

I believe (based on some small papers ) certain genetic mutations, specifically in the MAPK8 gene encoding JNK1 that’s re often associated with certain connective tissue disorders are also associated with chronic mucocutaneous candidiasis since these pathways are important for mucosal immunity (Candida and fungus often invades mucous membranes).

The mutations disrupt the JNK1-dependent MAPK signaling pathway, which is crucial for both IL-17A/F-dependent mucocutaneous immunity against Candida and TGF-β-dependent homeostasis of connective tissues.

In one particular study, patients with a private splice-site variant of MAPK8 show impaired responses to IL-17A and IL-17F, essential cytokines for mucosal immunity. Furthermore, the development of their TH17 cells (a type of immune cell important for fungal defense) is compromised, likely due to JNK1's role in the TGF-β-responsive pathway. This impairment can lead to CMC. Additionally, the same mutation affects the fibroblasts' ability to respond to TGF-β, which is necessary for maintaining connective tissue integrity, contributing to the CTD phenotype that overlaps with conditions like Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS).

the study highlights a possible link between genetic mutations affecting connective tissues and an increased susceptibility to fungal infections, indicating that pathways involved in connective tissue homeostasis can also play significant roles in immune defense mechanisms.

Supplements that may help:

NAC — NAC helps to modulate mucosal immunity and disrupts Candida biofilms.

Dosing: 600-1200mg through out the duration of your fungal protocol

BulkSupplements.com N-Acetyl L-Cysteine Capsules - N-Acetyl Cysteine 600mg, NAC Supplement - 600mg per Capsule, Gluten Free - 1 NAC Capsule per Serving, 360 Capsules (Pack of 1)

Gastrointestinal bio-regulators — GI bio regulators can help restore mucosal barrier function and prevents Candida alibicans invasion into these tissues

Dosing: 2-4 capsules for 10-20 days. Cycle can be done every 1-2 months

HMO’s —HMOS can inhibit the adhesion of pathogenic microorganisms to the mucosal surfaces in the gut. By preventing the attachment of harmful bacteria and viruses, HMOs contribute to the protection of the mucosal surfaces and may help compensate for these mutations. HMOs have been shown to modulate immune responses (particularly mucosal immunity) in the gut by influencing the production of cytokines and other immune-regulatory molecules.

Dosing: 1 serving ideally taken with probiotic

Licorice —Licorice, specifically the compound glvcyrrhizin found in licorice root. has been studied for its potential effects onmucosal immunity. Glycyrrhizin has anti-inflammatory and antiviral properties, which may help support the mucosal immune system.

Dosing: 1-2 capsules daily before meals

Microbiome Labs MegaGuard - Artichoke Leaf + Ginger Extract to Support Digestive Health - Daily Gut Health Supplement for Occasional Bloating Relief (60 Capsules) https://a.co/d/hKSCyZi

GHK — GHK is a small peptide that regulates many genes in the body, particularly genes related to infection, immunity and most importantly, connective tissues. GHK can repair the lining of the gut, and seems to be particularly effective at combating fungal infections in mucosal tissues while also repairing barrier function in them
