No reviews in almost a year, and then 3 bad reviews in a single day. :(
Yay. Merry Christmas to me.
It sucks, and feels like a gut punch. And I was all excited about how many people have been e-mailing me and telling me they love my stories and leaving me comments on DeviantArt and Reddit and here. But apparently, as far as formal reviews go... :(
Just, to be open and forthright about this: I welcome reviews of every stripe, good or bad. I especially welcome complex reviews that talk about different aspects of the story and why this part doesn't work for someone but that part did. Things like that help me make my stories better. They help me improve my characterization and tighten my writing. But every 'bad' review I've ever gotten has been about my stories being too long and too slow moving. The account above has left me a negative review on practically every story I've ever written, for the same reason: too long. There are a segment of people who definitely want their erotica short and self-contained.
But clearly... I am not writing for those readers. After three years of trying to write short erotica stories, I've discovered that I HATE short stories. I'm never happy with the result. I love writing long, detailed, and yeah, slow moving stories. I'm proud of them. If that's not to anyone's tastes, then I'll just keep writing them for me, or stop writing all together, or stop writing erotica. But that's the bedrock of what I do. I write long stories. Beating me over the head with negative reviews because my stories are too long for some people isn't going to force me to change how I write.
But now I'm gonna go sulk with a plate of sugar cookies and wipe my eyes. I'll try writing again tomorrow.
