Sketchbook Pages + WIPs

Hi peeps,

Here are a few of my latest sketchbook pages!

I'm currently in the mood to work on several new pieces at the same time and jumping from one to the other erratically, so here's what I have got going on, in no particular order. XD

The sketch on the left above was an attempt at exteriorising the feelings I had towards the Roe v Wade situation, and women's rights in general. I'm still pondering the concept and I might pick it up at some point, but it needs a little more time to mature in my heart first.

I'm not really a fan-art type of artist, not because I don't enjoy it, but mostly because I tend to have so little time to explore my own ideas, and so many of those ideas, that I prefer prioritising exploring my own concepts when I can.

However, I do eventually want to start building my portfolio to submit applications for posters and covers, and client commissions in general, and a skill I want to showcase is the ability to merge my personal style of work with an existing IP (Intellectual Property).

Since Stranger Things is the moment, and since I have always enjoyed the show, and particularly loved the last season (fun fact : the guys who did the make-up for Vecna were my old boss and colleagues from Game of Thrones XD), I figured I might give fan-art a try for once, and see if I can put my own twist on some of the narrative and characters.

So below is my draft for a Max&Vecna fan art piece ;)

And finally, I have decided to pick up 2 pieces I have had in the works for an extended period of time now :

First, this small(ish) piece, which I attempted several times already to no avail :

I think I feel a little more confident about the direction I want to take it.
I updated the pose (peep the updated sketch in the sketchbook pages above), I have transferred the sketch and have now been planning the look of the steam coming from the coffee (On Procreate, overlaying it on a photo of the sketch).

I would like it to have a very graphic, tangible quality, and have it interact with the different planes of branches growing out of the character, to enhance the sense of depth.

And second, I have finally started transferring the sketch for this piece below :

Yes, I know, another ribbon themed piece, but it is the visual I currently am most drawn to, and there are so many ways to use it, that I am keen to explore it for this painting.

This last one if the biggest one in this batch and will probably take me the longest to plan out and start painting, but I have been keen to start it for a while, and I am excited to see where it goes.

That's it for me for now, I will of course update you all with my progress as they go along!

Sending you all love,
Have a great week-end,
M
