MOLTEN - Exclusive Process Timelapse

Hello lovely people,

I'm cutting it pretty close, my apologies, but here is your June Process Timelapse!

This piece didn't take me long to complete if you add all the hours together, but it did take me longer than it should have as I seem to have some kind of sinus infection that is making everything stupidly difficult (and which I can't seem to get proper treatment for), hence why I'm uploading quite a bit of my posts so late in the month. I swear, June has been one big mess of a month, haha.

This small painting is another experiment with muted tones and the grisaille process, where I lay down my basic values in grey first and then work in washes over the top.

I painted this piece in acrylic, and kept mostly to black and payne's grey, with the occasional dab of ultramarine and cerulean

I drew the outline with a dip pen, which is a process I also used to do the linework on my lemon tree painting from a few weeks ago.

I use the dip pen with acrylic inks instead of paints, namely a mix of Schmincke's Red Madder Dark ink and Liquitex's Transparent Raw Umber ink. The resulting colour is close to the muted red I used to use to outline my paintings, but I prefer the control I can get with the pen instead of the brush. I can get much finer lines than I ever could with even my tiniest brush, and can keep those lines steady much more easily, so I am liking this technique so far.

I used a referencefor the hand position that I was initially going to share but it does feature blood, and I can't give an effective trigger warning on a post, so here's a link instead, if you'd like to see it : https://www.pinterest.co.uk/pin/440086194830692759/

I found the process for this piece to be very pleasant, and I think I am starting to get closer to the type of results I am aiming for with these small experiments.

I tried to push my values a little further than I am usually comfortable doing, and I enjoyed playing with textures and washes.

I feel a little more ready to jump into something bigger, so I think my next piece will be a bit more complex.

I'll obviously keep you in the loop as I go! :)

I hope you are all well,

Enjoy the video and don't hesitate to ask if you have questions at all!

All my love,
M
