Daily Doodle Diary 2021 - #1

Hello everyone,

Here's your first Daily Doodle Diary batch of 2021! :)

I took a portion of January off from the diary as there was just too much chaos and exhausting things to deal with and my brain felt a little too stretched as it was, but I have managed to pick up the habit again the last few days. And I've been enjoying it thoroughly!

Here's the diary I chose this year, after a couple of failed purchases.
Many of the diaries I looked at had terrible paper, grouped Saturday and Sunday on the same page, or were the wrong size, but I finally found this one on Ebay.
It still isn't quite as cute and good quality as my 2020 one, but I think I'll have to accept that that one was a fluke, haha!

This new one is A6, and has decent enough paper that my pens don't bleed through too much. The main downside are the dark lines on each day, which come in the way of drawing a little. But I'm sure I'll get used to it.

I have 2 other diaries that I bought initially but ended up not being adequate. I don't want to throw them away, so if anyone has any ideas on how I could use them, let me know! ;)

I started off easy, with messy doodles and bright colours.

This last spread is probably my favourite so far. I worked without reference and just allowed myself to relax and have fun.

I am slowly finding my motivation and excitement to draw and create again, and these doodles have been instrumental in reconnecting me with that pleasure and passion.

This is how far I have gotten for the time being, but I'll keep you updated with regular batches, as I did last year!

Have any of you taken up the challenge too?
If you have, I'd love to see your work!
Feel free to tag me on social media with #myriamdailydoodles and I'll repost you in my insta stories!

I hope you are all well,
Sketchbook PDF will be uploaded tomorrow!

Take care lovely people,

Love, M

Just ordered a moleskine from the brand's website, only place that had them in stock!

Thanks Jeske! I feel like I tried something similar to 26 in my last diary, haha, but I come back to concepts often if I don't feel like I've reached a suitable conclusion to them. That's exactly what I did with my first couple tries for a notebook too, haha! I had never really used yearly diaries before so it didn't occur to me to check for the week end pages. The thing is, I have so many nice notebooks to do those things in already...I love me a good notebook....Almost as much as a good sketchbook. I might use them for daily notes about the days as you suggested. I've been wanting to get into journaling for a while, but find it overwhelming, so maybe it might help to have a restricted amount of space to write each day. Super impressed by your consistency, well done! I'd love to see what you manage to create, could you remind me of you social media handles?

Thank you Leigh ^^

Thanks Katherine! Me too :) I'll ride the wave while it lasts :)

I can relate! This one was my third try and I'm still not 100% about it. It'll have to do though. Someone mentioned Moleskine has some nice ones?

Thanks JC! I feel a little better now so I've managed to keep up with the habit better than I think I would have done if I tried to power through it. :)

The owl is amazing, wow! 26 is also a lovely doodle. I totally understand why you didn't want to have Saturday and Sunday on the same page. The daily journal I bought in early December has it that wat and I don't like it. I just randomly grabbed a not-so expensive notebook and didn't look at it until January 1st. Perhaps you could use the other diaries for other inspiring things that are not related to drawing. You could write down dreams you had that day, a word/phrase or song that caught your attention, or write down things you are grateful for that day. Those were the first ideas that came to my mind. I'm currently getting ready to start with today's doodle. So far I have managed to doodle something every single day of the month and I am impressed by myself! I haven't been posting the doodles yet, though I share them in my IG story everyday and add them to my story highlights. For now I am fine with that, but maybe I will upload a monthly flipthrough after each month.

I love the owl. It's beautiful.

I particularly like 23, 24, and 27. I'm so glad you're feeling well enough to create.

Love Number 24, thought about starting one, but finding it hard to find a good notebook.

Great to see after your new year problems that you have kick started your daily doodles.
