Hi everyone,
As I mentioned in my previous post, I didn't do much sketching in the last few weeks, as I have been focusing mostly on the big painting.
So for this PDF, I compiled the couple of sketches I did do, but also added some scans of an old (2007 I think), very small sketchbook, in which I drew some of my weirder pieces of the time.
I distinctly remember this sketchbook, and how I had decided to use it to do some no-reference sketching, and indulge in my stranger ideas. I seem to have titled most drawings in the book, and these little pieces give me a strange feeling of eeriness.
At the time I drew them, I was starting to be more comfortable coming up with my own surreal ideas, and I was starting to figure out how to draw people, if still in a very stylised way, and I drew the same sort of characters everywhere.
Looking back, it is so clear that I have had a penchant for darker, more surreal imagery for a long time, and it is odd that I didn't remember myself in that way until I looked through my old files.
To me, 2017 was the year I started exploring surrealism and darker subject matters but I clearly had those tendencies since I was a kid. I love that. It's like realising I am coming back to myself and my nature.
Anyway.
Apologies for the lack of more recent doodles, I am more in a mood to focus on bigger projects at the moment, but things come in waves, and I'm sure I'll get back to sketching very soon.
I hope you are well peeps,
Take good care of yourselves,
M
