Hey peeps,
I have finished the underdrawing for my next painting (above).
It is based on the concept sketch I showed you in December (below).
I'm excited to paint this one, partly because I like the concept and have a pretty clear idea of how I want to paint it, but also because I will be using my Liquitex Soft Body Acrylics.
I have't really used proper acrylic paints in well over 10 years, and although I still have the ones I was told to buy for school back in 2005, I don't trust they haven't grown alien lifeforms inside of the tubes by now, so I bought myself a new set. XD

I gave them a quick try this afternoon, to see how it all felt and get an idea of how I should proceed for the bigger painting, and it was great fun (below portrait study)!
I definitely had some trouble moving past my gouache and watercolour instincts, and having to contend with not being able to go back over a stroke and soften or blend it after it had dried was a little strange, but also rather enjoyable.
I can definitely see myself painting an under-painting in acrylic and going back with some gouache on top to make some things pop.
I am also feeling the need for outlines at the moments, and am enjoying integrating watercolour pencils in my work.

I feel a bit rusty with painting, which is not surprising, but having a new medium to play with is helping me get past the anxiety of getting back on the horse, strangely enough.
I feel a little bit like a kid with a new toy. :)
I have filmed the portrait study, so would be happy to upload it as either a timelapse or real-time video if you would be interested?
I will also record the big painting every step of the way, so I'll be able to put a Process Video together for it.
That's all for me for today,
I hope you are all doing well,
Take care!
