Hi peeps,
The thing I find most stressful about Inktober is having to come up with an idea, sketch it out and then ink it, all in one day. In the past, I have dreamed of coming up with ideas a couple of weeks ahead of the challenge and perhaps sketching them out, so I only have to ink on the day, but because my taste and inspiration are fickle, and because I change my mind so easily if I have even the smallest amount of time to think about a concept, I haven't managed to make myself do that yet.
So I thought I'd try again today.
I felt like sketching rather than inking, and I had a few ideas knocking around. I sketched 3 out which I am fairly happy about, and I thought you might enjoy a preview of them!
I don't press down heavily when I draw, so the scans don't come out super clear, and I emphasize them in Photoshop so you can see the lines better, but apologies if they are not super understandable yet.
I let go of the prompts today, and immediately had a bunch of ideas I wanted to explore. Coincidentally, some of them do fit some of the prompts somewhat!

This one kind of fits "ornament" I think. I had an urge to use my paper diagonally instead of in its normal square format.
I'm not sure how understandable the drawing is, but the character is basically split in the middle, with a lock keeping the two parts together, and the person is either retrieving or dropping the key into themselves.

Those of you who've been with me for a little while might remember a line-art I made available for download for patrons last year (it's still available under the "patreon exclusive" tag if you missed out on it). This idea is another take on that idea, with the cage growing from the body instead of being the head of the character.
I might change the position of the left hand, and I'm sure I'll tweak a bunch of things by the time I ink, but at least I have the broad idea down.
This one could fit the prompts "catch", maybe.

This last sketch is probably the least comprehensible visually, as my coloured pencils don't show up well on scan.
The idea for this one is that the character is dissolving into ribbons, and the ribbons are catching on the trees and branches around it. I want something flowy and ethereal for this one, and it's probably the one I am most excited about inking. I'm enjoying having more landscapy, natural backgrounds at the moment.
I'm not sure this one matched any prompts, and wasn't really intended to. It was just an idea I had knocking about. But maybe "ghost" ? or "enchanted"?
Anywho. I hope you enjoyed this little sneak peak into my upcoming Inktober pieces. I was glad to have something a little more exclusive to share with you all :)
I hope you are all well!
