What do you guys think?

Hey guys,

I need some exterior input ;

I want to start painting this concept, but I'm torn.

I can't decide whether I want the main character to be standing or sitting.

I thought I preferred it sitting, but I'm not sure anymore!

What do you all think?

EDIT :
Ok. So I suspect I am leaning towards the standing one more, as, like you guys pointed out, it has more movement and dynamism to it. I also like that the creature is more cramped, and seems like it is hiding from the human figure, who's almost trying to see it, but can't quite get there, if that makes sense?

I like that the sitting one isn't cropped, but I like that the standing one is cropped, which is no help to me whatsoever, hahaha.

I like that the creature is partly out of the body in the sitting one, as I was intending on making it become somewhat translucent outside of the hollow.

Maybe I'll do a small series, as Gabrielle said, because I like some things about each, that project different meanings, so maybe I should just explore both?

Thank you so much for your really great input everyone!

These are all the sketches since I got the idea, the two bottom ones are the ones that were explorations of the final composition, the two top ones are just quick mock-ups of the concept.

What do you guys think?

That's a really cool idea!! I won't do it for this one, but I'd love to explore that more, thank you MalaMik! I might do a little series of this theme actually....:)

You could do a dual painting with the inside entities reaching out and holding hands with each other?

I'm glad my reply was helpful! Can't wait to see what you choose!

Thank you Morrigan! ^^

Thanks Arlee! I'm finding making a decision so hard!

I want the inner creature to reflect the position of the human in some way, so I'd keep it standing if I were to paint the whole character as standing also. But I like the cramped feeling, so I would transfer that to the sitting one if I were to do that one......Aaaagh, I'm so torn, haha. Thank for your input Lauren!

Thank you, that's a great way of looking at it, and I suspect the reason why I still love that one!

I was thinking of maybe making a small series, indeed! I agree with what you say about the effect of it not being cropped, although part of me also likes the crop, because it focuses the narrative on the creature, and not the person, which, and I'm not sure why, feels closer to the meaning I want to convey than the full one. But I'm not sure what that meaning is.....So I'm confusing myself, haha.

Thank you! I'm so torn, haha!

Thank you for that thorough response and analyis Dyan! I absolutely agree with all you said, and I think you've pointed out exactly how I felt about the pieces myself. I like the dynamism and movement of the standing one, and the creature being more cramped and more character-ful. But I like the weight of the sitting one, and as Gabrielle pointed out, that it isn't cropped. Although cropped also gives it an aspect I like, putting the focus on the creature rather than the person...I like what you said about the weight in both composition, I hadn't thought of it, but I think that is what influenced me towards not being 100% happy with the standing one...Something feels wrong, ever so slightly, and I think you might be spot on...

I agree, the creature is more interesting in that one too, and it has more movement overall. But I could potentially make the creature in the sitting one more interesting too, maybe make it look more cramped? Thanks for your input Lisa ^^

I am very torn too! Thanks for your input Lexie! ^^

I like the bottom right best. I love the way the exterior personality is looking out wards and ignoring the inner suffering person. I think this expresses perfectly the 2 separation and different aspects of our inner and outer personalities with one court up in the outer images and the other suffering inside.

I really like both for different reasons but I prefer the sitting one

Both of the bottom sketches are lovely, but I prefer the movement of the pose in the bottom left sketch. Thanks so much for sharing these with us. ♥

Bottom left + standing is definitely my favorite!!! Standing works especially well for the larger/grayscale figure, but if you wanted the inner/red figure could be sitting or contorted within them perhaps? All that being said, I too like the bottom left image the best!

The bottom left one has a wonderful sense of movement. It feels dynamic, like you've caught a snapshot of a moment

To be honest, my favorite ones are the upper left and the lower right, so I'd say both... I really love the feel of both and I don't think they look necessarily strange together, so you could certainly have a series out of this. But if it's only for one, I'd say the bottom right one isn't cropped, so that might be more interesting / finished-looking for the eye?

Gabrielle Marin

I like the bottom left more than the one on the bottom right. But both are nice.

I find the bottom left to be the most intriguing, as it shows the person looking back at us, which makes the "shell of a person" element look more like an actual person rather than a plastic cutout of a human shape. I find that the pose of the human shell and the pose of the person/creature inside is more dynamic in that one as well. The only problem with it in my opinion is that it seems to have even weight right in the middle of the composition, whereas the one with her sitting is weightier in the bottom third, which makes the composition more pleasing to look at. So even though the poses in the bottom left look dynamic, it has a feeling of being flat because of this even distribution of weight in the center of the page. This is just my personal opinion, of course, so you can take it with a grain of salt. All in all, even with it being centered on the page, the dynamicism (dynamic-ness? What are words?) of the poses are most pleasing to me in comparison to the sitting one and the other standing ones, which makes me like the bottom left one more than the others. Hopefully my input is helpful in some way and isn't just me ranting about things. ^w^ All of these drawings are beautiful, and I'm excited to see which one you'll choose!!

I like the bottom left one a lot! The pose of the ghost or soul (?) Character is the most interesting in my opinion and I like how the person looks back. I feel like it just fits

And again sorry I'm trolling your comments section, I am quite torn but I think I do prefer the sitting one

Sorry didn't mean to press send
