That’s always been my belief. Harper and the Yankees were absolutely trending toward each other based on need and want. The emergence of Judge gave Hal a 700K RFer, not a $30MM RFer. Judge then enabled them to bring in Stanton and his $22MM AAV bat. Two middle-of-the-order hitters on the “cheap,” and they always figured Stanton would move toward DH. Harper was viewed as a RFer, so no need for two of those! The failure here was not recognizing 25-year-old Judge was a fine CFer. We could have had Judge in center, Harper in right, no Stanton, and maybe no long-term Hicks deal. And as Judge entered his early 30s, he could return to RF with Harper at first. Two great hitters, one lefty, one righty. We also likely never trade for Sosa, who without the Yankee-Met face off gets less money, and Michael King remains in the rotation. It’s easy to piece together the perfect sequence of events in retrospect, and other things likely would and would not have happened, but I am convinced Judge’s arrival short circuited what at one time seemed inevitable. Harper a Yankee. I blame the messenger.

2025-04-04 22:34:22 +0000 UTCWe are one 4-2 week into the season, and already this post is littered with unquestionable Boone failings: 1. Goldschmidt, not Wells, at leadoff against righties; 2. Boone saving Weaver Tuesday for a save that never came; 3. In year 8, Boone still being oblivious to opponents pinch hitters; 4. Boone pulling Dominguez late for defense, stifling development. "That's right, woodchuck-chuckers - it's GROUNDHOG DAAAAY!"

2025-04-04 16:16:12 +0000 UTCI'm surprised that major leaguers are talking about trying out a torpedo bat in the middle of the season. I'd think that they're so locked into their gear at this point that they wouldn't want to change something like that. In my sole experience playing competitive baseball (as a 13 year old little leaguer), I remember that I wouldn't use a bat that was a few ounces different since it would throw my swing out of whack (and I wouldn't be able to occasionally hit a ball out of the infield).

2025-04-04 15:17:35 +0000 UTCI have it on good authority that Cole privately blames his elbow injury on a manicure that left his fingernails 0.5mm longer than usual.

2025-04-04 15:13:45 +0000 UTCIt's definitely the torpedo bats that caused Stanton's 2 elbow injuries. What else could it possibly be? And all the leg muscle pulls he gets "decelerating" on the bases? Blame his new rocket shoes.

2025-04-04 14:32:27 +0000 UTC"They scored 20 runs, so you have to run that same lineup out there again day after day regardless of matchups, because you might score 20 again! Tell me that doesn’t sound like Boone." This actually sounds like the OPPOSITE of Boone. Remember he's the guy who let Volpe lead off for how long? Who sits a guy on a hot streak for rest? Boone is more likely to try something asinine and get too cute trying to seem like the smartest man in the Stadium rather than run something back that worked the day before.
