I'd resign Carpenter and start the year with DJ at 2B, Peraza at SS and Donaldson at 3B, and hope that Volpe forces himself into the lineup before Donaldson becomes totally unplayable. Conforto or Bellinger for LF, K. Senga for the rotation, Chaffin for the bullpen, Judge is the captain, and away we go.

I am concerned about how the elimination of the shift might (and likely will) turn him into a currently ok defender at 2B, to a negative defender. I suspect the Yankees are concerned about that too. 2022-11-23 18:22:39 +0000 UTCI feel like our only chance to get any equal value out of Gleyber is to keep him and hope he gets on a hot streak at the right time. Otherwise I am extremely underwhelmed by what he would return in a trade. Maybe if we could fetch a decent starter or catcher but that seems unlikely.

Reasons to keep him: he's young, was one of their best hitters this season, will make only ~$10M and won't fetch much in a trade. Reasons to trade him: he's right-handed, a limited defender, a terrible baserunner and 2B could be played by DJLM or Volpe (with Torres' $10M going to a left-handed contact hitter).
