I have not clue what fans want Boone to say after games... Should he say the team sucks and that he really doesn't think they will win another game ever. They actually have bounced back because after all these horrific losses they have not completely shutdown on the season and are only 1 game from a wild card spot.

2021-07-28 17:04:59 +0000 UTCJust an obligatory shout out to plus defender Andrew Velazquez who is now sporting .826 OPS in Scranton.

2021-07-28 04:06:08 +0000 UTCWow. Rickey. Didn’t even realize that!

2021-07-28 03:58:51 +0000 UTCNot exactly a “random Yankee” but still random: Can we comment on how weird it is that Ryan LaMarre throws left and bats right? Who does that?!

2021-07-28 03:55:26 +0000 UTCHe's been great lately. I'd prefer him over every rental starter except Scherzer, I think.

2021-07-28 01:14:16 +0000 UTCWhen I see Steve Kemp's name, it reminds me that even as a kid I liked lefty, line-drive hitters with power who walked a lot. I mean, who doesn't?! In a different time and Yankee team, and with health on his side, Kemp could have been as beloved by Yankee fans as Paul O'Neill was. Kemp always gave his all on the field.

2021-07-27 17:33:35 +0000 UTCMy only concern is he has no minor league options remaining. That was (and is) a benefit that Peralta brought. They have to keep him or likely lose him. Regardless, cashing in depth they were going to lose at yearend for a reliever is fine.

2021-07-27 17:29:57 +0000 UTCI don't see the Yankees going with another rookie manager.

2021-07-27 17:27:22 +0000 UTCI don't think he cleared waivers. He was a COVID call-up, so they could outright him without exposing him to waivers.

2021-07-27 17:22:01 +0000 UTCContinuing in the same theme of replacements for Boone, I would be interested in ARod. I know he comes with his own baggage and he too would be another first time manager, but he has always been described as a baseball nerd and from his broadcasts you can tell he has a deep knowledge and understanding of the game. Add in the fact that many of the yankee players have consulted him when they have been in slumps for help (Gary and Gleyber from what i can remember off the top of my head) and how he can connect with the latin players through his experiences and bilingual abilities and i think he would be a good choice for replacement.

2021-07-27 16:11:51 +0000 UTCCone is an all-time favourite of mine, and I think he is a very smart guy who really understands the logic of analytics (while also understanding how they interact with the psychology of baseball players). But I think of him as more of a coach than a manager - a guy who could be a pitching coach or a consultant, not the guy in the dugout for more than half a year. As for Beltran, so many players talk about his importance to them (most recently Judge talking to Buster Olney), and the stories of his leadership have followed him throughout his career in a way that is a bit similar to CC, where he has had a huge impact on younger players. I think the controversy is real (indeed, he was a leader in that situation, and unfortunately the players followed him), but I am willing to look forward to have him come in as manager. He would be a first time manager, which we have seen with Boone is a risk. I realize Cora had some experience on the bench, but he was also pretty green and I think has a skillset similar to Beltran. He has been a special adviser to the team, so they obviously have some experience working with him.

2021-07-27 15:31:40 +0000 UTCThe Boone experiment has me wary of first time managers, but I can’t help but think that Coney would be a great choice. He understands the balance of analytics and “feel for the game,” he has a hard edge to get the most out of players while also being a great clubhouse presence that can definitely loosen up and make the game fun for the guys when necessary.

2021-07-27 03:47:12 +0000 UTCAnd all the controversy that comes with Beltran??? Hard pass
KT
2021-07-27 03:46:09 +0000 UTCWhenever I see a paragraph with quotes from Boone, I skip past it, as I do with anything from Kelyann Conaway. If that offends anyone, replace Conway with your choice of progressive. It still works.

2021-07-27 00:24:05 +0000 UTCIf I recall correctly, Steve Kemp was hit by a BP line drive off the bat of Oscar Gamble. As a kid that was shocking- I didn’t think you could get hurt in BP.

2021-07-27 00:19:13 +0000 UTCHow do you know he’s a great leader?
Jingling Baby
2021-07-27 00:17:55 +0000 UTCYes, and he just cleared waivers! Not a single team would give him a roster spot. So it's not like other teams disagree with the Yankees. I think most baseball people think Castillo was the more important piece, but all the complaining is over Park.
DZB
2021-07-27 00:10:54 +0000 UTCThe Yankee-verse is already up in arms over trading Park, a guy who wasn’t a top 30 prospect before the season and is disliked by the scouting department, the analytics department, and all 29 other FOs (been passed over twice in the Rule 5). But he has good AAA stats. We all know how reliable THAT is…
Just a Little Guy
2021-07-26 23:57:23 +0000 UTCRegarding the trade. That's exactly the top priority I had. Trade some of the logjam players to get someone more useful. They have too many guys that will need 40 man spots this off-season, so they are fungible resources that should be cashed in before they are gone (where possible - not all fringe guys have enough value to move).

2021-07-26 23:49:53 +0000 UTCWith the calls for Boone to be fired ramping up, I'm interested in hearing ideas for his replacement. I'm on the Beltran wagon since I think he is what the team needs. He's a great leader, has a huge baseball IQ, and seems to be a good communicator. Like most here, I was angry about his role in the sign stealing, but I'm ready to move on if he would take the job.

2021-07-26 23:17:38 +0000 UTC107 wRC+ with solid defense is amazing production for someone who’s essentially a backup IF pressed into everyday duty. Everyone loved Ronald Torreyes in that role and he maxed out at 83 wRC+ with the Yankees.
Just a Little Guy
2021-07-26 23:01:16 +0000 UTCAny chance we could get a rundown (maybe on Friday) of how Yankees prospects did in the various mid-season rankings updates?
Just a Little Guy
2021-07-26 22:59:18 +0000 UTCMike, I know you are in the "no rentals" camp but how about Jon Gray? With the derth of SP available I am kind of surprised there hasn't been more rumors about him well anywhere! But he seems healthy and his overall numbers look solid....get him away from Coors, change some pitch selection maybe? You get a first hand look at seeing if you could wash the "Rockies" off him and then if he checks all those up close and personal boxes, re-sign him, etc. I know he is not THE answer but maybe he could be something and put together a Brandon McCarthy half season and then..who knows!
Steve
2021-07-26 22:31:43 +0000 UTCGee Mike, I reckon ease up on the revising of Odor. He's looking OK on a terrible Yankee team? So what. If it was a normal Yankee team he wouldn't be there. If Odor is what the Yankees aspire too, then I'm picking another team to follow.

2021-07-26 22:18:39 +0000 UTCLast year joke of a season, two years of Manfred-Rules and this shame of a team have sucked away my (already wobbling) love for the game. I don’t get joy watching baseball anymore, I spend way more time reading mock drafts for the Knicks or projected lines for the Rangers. Sorry but I surrender, I’ll take a leave for the rest of the season, I’m out.
