Jaws (1975) Reaction!

Comments

'That's some bad hat, Harry.' I've heard that God knows how many times at the end of TV shows, but I hadn't seen this movie for so long that I never realized it was from 'Jaws'. Incidentally, the back of the house from 'The Amityville Horror' is supposedly in this movie a couple of times. I saw it, but I don't know if it is actually that house or not. The USS Indianapolis story absolutely is true. Quint's telling of it is one of the great 'audience goes silent' moments in cinematic history. The fact that Robert Shaw was drunk as a fiddler actually helped his delivery, I think.

I see your pun there! :D

Well since yall wanna do older classic movies I'll suggest again Dead Poets Society. It was made 1989 and is on yalls 250 list. It has Robin Williams and Ethan Hawke, Maya Hakes father (Robin from stranger things), in it. One of my favorite movies. Enjoyed the reaction.

Quint’s Indianapolis story is one of the most iconic monologues ever committed to film. His character is unofficially based on a shark fisherman from Long Island, at least as far as the novel goes that the movie was adapted from. It was written by Peter Benchley who was a novelist (and also cameos as a reporter in the movie) whose books were exclusively sea-based, many of them featuring some sort of sea-creature as the main foil or antagonist. He would actually later regret the film’s popularity because it resulted in the public’s irrational fear of sharks and them being unnecessarily hunted to the point of some species becoming endangered. And the novel was much more melodramatic, almost to the point of a soap opera. The book took place in the fictional town of Amity on Long Island (where I was born, raised, and currently live, lol), but was changed to a fictional island off of Massachusetts for the film (ironically because they thought it would effect the seasonal economy of southeast Long Island, particularly the Hamptons). There was even a subplot in the novel where Brody’s wife has an affair with Hooper, and the reason the mayor was so reluctant to close the beaches was because he had already taken loans from the Italian mob to sustain the town’s appeal as a resort destination…🙄😂. As far as any of the sequels go, Roy Scheider pretty much had to be handcuffed and dragged to the set of Jaws 2 while they poured buckets of money on him, and the circumstances of the two subsequent sequels were progressively worse, so…tread at your own risk…👀🤫🤣😉
