But you don't realize that he is the ultimate hero of the entire story. if he didn't run into frodo and sam stealing from the farmer, they wouldn't have got to the ferry and gotten away from the nazgul. If he didn't alert the people in the prancing pony that his name was frodo baggins, causing frodo to get knocked down and put on the ring, then aragorn would not have taken him to safety, and they all would have died in their beds. If he didn't accidentally waken the balrog in moria gandalf would have never fought him and would have never come back more powerful, and without that extra power, he would not have been able to save theodin from sauruman's spell. If he hadn't told treebeer to turn around and go south, the ents would have never take an isengard, and if he hadn't picked up the seeing stone at isengard and looked at it they would not have known the plan of the enemy. They would not have been able to get the beacons lit without him. Gandalf would have died from a stab to the back by an orc, if pippin hadn't killed that orc. And gandalf wouldn't have been able to rally the troops at gondor nor save ferramir's life when his father was trying to burn him alive. And again, if he hadn't picked up the seeing stone, then aragorn wouldn't have been able to distract sauron, and they would have found frodo and Sam in mordor, and the ring would have returned to him, and sauron would have won. If not for pippin, all of middle earth would have laid an ash.
