The world building and the portrayal of Gotham was a 10/10 in this film!

2024-07-25 01:13:36 +0000 UTCSurprised (I don’t think) anyone mentioned it here yet, but the Joker originally actually made an appearance in a deleted scene from the late first/early second act where Batman visits him in Arkham for consultation on Riddler’s pathology. Very similar vibes to Clarice and Hannibal Lecter in Silence of the Lambs. It basically establishes that Batman and he already clashed in his first year and that’s how he ended up in Arkham. As long as that person keeps walking in and handing you that billion dollars, you'll keep green lighting it. That's Batman. Every time WB makes a new Batman movie, dump trucks full of money back up to their front door. If those dump trucks keep coming, then they'll keep making more Batman films.

In DC Batman and his villains are the darkest characters in that universe and this movie captures that perfectly. The villains in C Nolans version are dark too but something about this movie hits different. Also, do you guys have any idea when you'll be getting to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness? That's one of the best MCU movies after Endgame IMO. It's also directed by Sam Raimi who directed the Toby Macguire Spider-Man and the Evil Dead movies. Can't wait for the next movie reaction! It's obviously hard to discount the Dark Knight because it epic but it does just feel like NYC and not gotham. The biggest complaint in this movie to me is the portrayal of Bruce Wayne but its easily explainable as its only year 2 of being Batman and he is angry wanting vengeance. I would hope with the next movie or 2 they do in this universe we see him grow and become the more sociable Bruce we are used to. I can not wait for the Penguin series, I think it could be great. Colin Farrell is an incredible actor for that role, cant even tell its him

I think if DC made more grounded films focusing on street level characters their live action movies would do well. Give us Wildcat, Shiva, Green Arrow. Make it street level, gritty and compelling. It would work.

2024-07-24 14:21:32 +0000 UTCBatman Begins (the first film of the Nolan trilogy) was released in 2005. So 18 years later rebooting isn't that immediate. The Tim Burton Batman was 1989, so that was only 16 years between reboots/origin stories. I imagine there will be a new Batman in the 2030s as well. It's just the way they do it!

2024-07-24 07:09:32 +0000 UTCHonestly this was a great film. Over the years the Riddler has been portrayed as more serious and less gimmicky. So having him be this dark was well done. I think Catwoman was perfect in this. This is exactly how her relationship is with Batman. Always on and off and not exactly on the same page. But if there was ever a woman Batman would settle down with, it would be Catwoman. It was really good man. I think in the sequel to this Mister Freeze is the villain and if done correctly that too will be an amazing film. Mister Freeze is an extremely tragic DC comics character. So if its him I hope they portray him well.

He’s working on a new DC Universe. Have you seen his version of the Suicide Squad yet? It’s actually pretty good. It was released in 2021 although it was planned for 2020 but the pandemic happened. James Gunn’s Suicide Squad also leads to a successful spinoff series on HBO Max. I won’t say what it’s called, but each episode gets better than the last and that’s very rare.
