House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 3 The Burning Mill!
Added 2024-07-02 05:44:35 +0000 UTC
A whole lot of stuff happened in this one ya'll!
I think the biggest thing is.... WAR is happening, we cannot be peaceful! We have to go to war.
What is happening to Daemon? Harrenhal is getting to him, all we need him to do is get a raven off to Rhaenyra!
Criston Cole now wears the pants when it comes to him and Alicent... lol.
We just wish these came out in 2's lol or 3's we need more HOTD!
What was your take on this episode?
this once a week is HARD stuff!

Can I just say, I LOVE your reactions to this show. It is so refreshing to see two people react with such honesty and a genuine want to understand each characters thoughts and decisions. I see so many people look over certain details, but you two really read between the lines and catch things. The shows storyline and characters are all so complex, all of their morals questionable to varying degrees, and you guys really capture that in your discussions. Like, seriously! You guys are AWESOME. So glad to watch the rest of the season alongside you! Catch you next week for another epic episode 😎

One episode a week suh-uhhhhhcks!! Especially after waiting 2 years for S2! They better pick up the pace, lol! I watched S2E1 when it dropped, and was completely lost. So, I went back and watched S1 for a second time and totally fell in love with the series! And now, I've just watched S1 (and S2 episodes) again here with you guys. This show uh-mazing!!! Lets go!

Do you think Laenor actually died in Essos? Because Rhaenyra mentioned that his dragon Seasmoke has been acting restless since recently. So Seasmoke wasn't restless for past 6 years since Laenor left. But only recently it started acting restless and crying. Is it because Seasmoke senses his rider died? Is it grieving?

A little bit of lore addition, the guy in Rhaenyra’s council is who wants to attack with dragons, is from House Celtigar. Like the Velaryons and Targs they are from Valyria. They came with the Targs and have a crab sigil. Also notice how the show chose to bring back Dyana in a scene where Targ bastards are discussed. 😅

That is what royals and politicians do. Which is absolutely great writing. Posture, threaten then be self righteous. It might just not be who you are as a person but trust me, thats what most tyrants do. Targs are no different they see themselves a Gods. What do you think the Kim family in North Korea do?

Man, it's so heartbreaking in the 10 seconds that Rhaenyra actually believes Viserys changed his mind about his heir before she can deduce Alicent misinterpreted. Emma D'Arcy did such a good job conveying the character's emotions

Did you guys catch that we finally saw alicents brother who was in the very first episode in the tourney but we didn’t see his face and daemon picked him just to spite Otto and knocked over his horse so he could win. Also keep in mind that they keep mentioning alicents youngest son Daeron is in oldtown which gwayne came from and who we haven’t met yet because they haven’t specifically mentioned how many sons alicent had until this season with a slight hint in episode 20 when daemon mentions that the greens and 4 dragon, 3 of them being adults (aegon, aemond, haelena) and 1 younger one which would be daerons

Ofcourse according to the book it's Dreamfyre's eggs that were stolen by Elisa Farman. We know her ship was finally thought to be seen in Asshai. So ofcourse that is the truth. Helaena's Dreamfyre is the actual mother of Dany's dragons. But I guess the show runners are trying to connect the two shows by these details. Just like how they introduced A Song of Ice and Fire as Aegon's dream about the Prince that was promised. To connect the shows and to give the non-book readers something to hype about they make these changes. And I'm not a fan of such changes.

Everyone has been talking about the fact that they made those Danerys eggs which is not congruent with what they said on GOT. Dani’s eggs came from Ashai. Drogon looks exactly like Dreamfyre. They know who stole 3 of Dreamfryes eggs and took them to Ashai.
Now they changed the whole story to Rhaena bringing the eggs to Pentos. And Syrax’s eggs that becomes Dani’s. When Drogon looks nothing like Syrax. The writers are just going around changing all these things from the books with no thought to what is already put there in the GOT show. Rhaena stays in the vale in the books
This is what happened at the end of GOT the writers started doing crazy things that didn’t make sense. How are Dani’s dragons supposed to look like Syrax? They look nothing alike.

They guys that Aegon appointed as the new kingsguard are the same guys he was getting drunk with in the throne room. That’s why they were just chillin on the steps and why they were talking to Aegon more as a friend then the King

I think the girl that talked to Daemon is a ghost or something. She's different from everyone else there. She didn't bow to Daemon earlier and her accent seems different than the others at Harrenhal

"there's only one person who can get underneath daemon's skin, and that's rhaenyra. and the fact that she just told him he was worthless [...] but what he remembers [is] the person who loved him the most was the young rhaenyra [...] with her, she's the only person that gets to his heart. and so that's the first time that we see daemon process his actions"

I am immensely impressed that y'all connected the Blackwoods and the Brackens to their previous confrontation during the proposals to Rhaenyra last season (ep 4). That's the kind of small world-building detail that normally flies over the heads of viewers (granted you've just watched that episode but still)!👏👏👏

Those eggs and kids were sent to Pentos. 3 of those 4 eggs that were sent had the same colour as Dany's eggs. A reddish black, a green, a golden cream. And Dany received it from Ilyrio Mopatis magister of Pentos as her wedding gift.

it was sad for many of us in the UK to see the twins die, especially in the manner they did, as we have seen them both grow up on our tv shows since they were both little kids - right up to now seeing them as fully grown bearded men.

I got more of the vibe that they were pushing Rhaenyra into the back seat. Like “Oh, but you’re just a woman, how about you go hide and we men will take care of the war, okay? Okay.” And what she should’ve done is punish them or make an example, that she is the QUEEN and is absolutely in charge, don’t get too big for your britches.
Rhaenyra knows the dragons are nuclear weapons, even if war/death is inevitable, she wants to minimize the casualties as much as possible, or at least try to. She knew she needed to get her ducks in a row before anything to ensure the safety of the future of her house and legacy.
I think it shows a lot about where Rhaenyra is in her head, she’s putting her duty to the realm before all else. I’m sure she would prefer to go after the greens and take revenge for Luke’s death, but she knows once the fighting begins, it won’t end soon. She was 👌🏼 this close to accepting Alicent’s terms on dragon stone in season 1. She was considering giving up her throne and crown in order to protect the realm from nuclear war. Rhaenys sees that and appreciates that she doesn’t with to “plunge into war” like the other men at her table. Aegon doesn’t give a rats ass what happens to the commoners. Rhaenyra, however, sees the bigger picture and is trying her best to be a rulers and not just a mother. I think she did a great job balancing both jobs this episode.
But I do agree, every episode has felt like the war would start, and then it doesn’t and I keep hoping for it to happen in the next. Lol

Those 3 new knights are Aegon’s drinking buddies (“Aegon the Magnanimous” and “the untamable beast!”). That’s why they’re so unserious and why Cristin only wanted knights he knew to join on his quest.

I don’t so much question their morality, I just find it hypocritical that she would do that and threaten the entire royal family in front of everybody so dramatically then come back and scold everyone for thinking they should move their armies into position when the war is so obviously started.

You are right of course, but I don't think morality is questioned when these highborns kill commoners. At least not from their point of view. Kill a hundred Kings Landing peasants? Meh... Kill the child heir to the throne? HOW DARE THEY! To be honest things aren't thaaaat different in real life. When celebs die some people act like they knew them and get all sad, but when thousands die overseas in a war some people shrug their shoulders, "that's the way of the world".

My biggest issue with this episode which I still enjoyed a lot was I think it was a bit season 8ish how they ignored all the logistics to make that rhaenyra and alicent scene happen, that's a lot of work and they just cut it all, I love that the conversation happened tho however I also think its incredibly dumb that Rhaenyra trusted Mysaria with her life so quickly. very naive of her tbh. I'm getting tired of the false righteousness from Rhaenys as well acting like she knows all the best decisions like she didn't kill hundreds of innocent people for no reason lol now she's preaching caution, Daemon is in the right with all this waiting is exactly what caused everything starting with viserys never taking action. I mean the greens killed your son, called their banners, and marched their army and Rhaenyra and rhaenys are thinking the war hasn't started. Next episode should really kick the war off tho so all that nonsense should be over.

Underrated episode of the season I’m calling it, it seems like nothing too big happens this episode but a lot of plot lines and characters/arcs/personalities are really being shaped these last 2 episodes imo like we are really getting to know these characters before all out war is gonna break loose literally starting next episode. The burning mill wasn’t just referencing the battle at the beginning between the blackwoods and brackens but again just like the fight between brothers it’s a parallel to greens vs blacks.
