Game of Thrones Season 6 Episode 5 & 6
Added 2024-04-20 13:02:30 +0000 UTC
So we met the most ambitious character of all time.... Euron! Although we chuckled at how this man moved up the chain so quickly, it opens up why we think a prophecy or destiny is coming at us in this story! Aside from that it was cool to see Yara and Theon kinda side with each other and potentially escape. WHATS DEAD MAY NEVER DIE!
HODOR! Our heart is shattered! Glad we finally got to kinda know more about him, even if it was brief, what a character! Him, Summer, and them kids all made a huge sacrifice for Bran! We won't forget it!
Is the Lord Of Light real? Maybe the red priestesses aren't as coo coo as we thought! It's okay Melisandre we all make mistakes, let's just not burn sweet children next time! Especially ones who are doing nothing but trying to further the education of main characters!
We also decided in this episode is that we are going to learn how to be a 3 Eyed WITH Bran bc his training was very light! Maybe that's where he was Season 5. SO here we are... wingin it!
We forgot to mention how awesome it was to see Samwell Tarly step up and acquire another Valyrian sword. Hopefully we need that thing in the wars to come. (We have to protect this storyline at ALL COSTS!)
Sad that we are down to 1 DIREWOLF, maybe 2 bc we did not see one of them die, so never count them out!
WE are loving season 6 so far! CANNOT WAIT FOR MORE <3
Am I missing something, you guys laugh at everything.

I suppose it is the preference of the viewer. There is so much that happens in this series and it’s impossible to not miss some information. I always found that the recap allowed me to follow the story much better, it never actually spoiled anything for me.
I see your point, I just think it’s much easier to make that point when you already know what will happen. For a first time viewer, those recaps can be a godsend

I can't stop laughing. You laughed about him being ambitious, commiting treason and demanding everyone cut down trees so soon. In my head I combined the two and thought about how he's commiting "treeson" .... I'm ashamed of myself for laughing.

Did you read the books?
Did you see my other reply about this on the last video?
And again no one has any argument against "Hold the door" happening so I'm not sure why that's being brought up here? But again the issue is not that something probably won't happen, it's that it will probably culminate and build up to in a markedly different way due to other key characters and storylines not being present in the show. I thought I emphasized this distinction and nuance about it pretty well in my other reply ... but I also wrote it so over sleep deprived that I didn't even know, so maybe not 🤷🏾♀️😅.

In my opinion this was the 1st episode I started ti notice the quality go down. Like Euron just took over that easy? But I looked passed it. More plot armor to come 😅

No doubt. I'm surprised they weren't more affected by it. That's one negative of talking during a show. You can't fully escape into the story. As much as I loved watching this show on Sundays with friends, I always preferred it alone, in the dark, with earphones. The real world was simply shut off. Obviously that's just not possible here lol

Don't worry about laughing a little bit. We all laughed with you during the whole Euron Greyjoy-thingy. It's no secret that small dumb things starts to emerge after season 4, when the overall quality - especially in the writing - starts to decline, and decend into stupidity and one-dimentionality. It's still a good show overall at this point, but it's clear that it's not AS good as the early GoT, which certainly didn't contain these kinds of scenes that are unintentionally funny, because of how dumb and rushed it appears to the audience. Nothing within that whole scene made any sense.

I didn't say 'this is proof,' just that the Hodor aspect was straight from GRRM. Until he releases another book, we won't know what his 'end game' actually is. I would not be surprised if the ultimate result aligns with what he is writing, and I will explain why it makes sense to me once we get there. There are several good reasons to think the end of his story will be a lot like the show.

Euron was the worst casting mistake they made, he played his part too over the top. He was trying to be menacing and came off comical instead. For all the good choices they made in casting, I can let that one pass. On the flip side, Peter Dinklage got 8 Emmy nominations, one for every season, winning 4 of them...

They did, they just did it off camera, they paused the recording after the episode was over. I think they took a minute for Mrs. to get herself gathered before the next episode.

If you look a the play you can see how sarcastic the players acted, the Lannisters may have propagandized the story, but the people were mocking it. To me that shows they knew much of it was just BS.

Any other character I'd say the giggling would be crazy but Euron is ridiculous, like man's a joke. It's like Theon said, he's been out gallavanting around and just came home and decided he's the best to rule. Boy, you were out going crazy on your own ship where you should be in your element doing the one thing the freaking Ironborn are good at. But sure he's fit to rule.

Yeah I think they keep seeing this as more of a cult than a cult of assassins, with emphasis on what's required to be a true assassin above all. They just happen to make up a god to justify their line of work lol.

People need to quit shaming our reactors for justifiably laughing at a completely ridiculous scene. The whole Euron business at the King's Moot was absolutely completely ridiculous and entirely deserving of derision. All of it: the speeches, the instantaneous switches of allegiances, the drowning, the march to murder the nephew and niece, the command to build a thousand ships... all of it was ridiculous. It was a completely ridiculous sequence.

Mrs October is correct about Arya's sense of self. People ask/pay the Faceless Men to kill someone - they're asking the Many Faced God to kill someone. Faceless Men are assassins who work for a deity - and Arya wanted to be one, has trained to be one. But to be one of those assassins, you HAVE to be No One - you have to give up your sense of self. Otherwise, you will get attached to people and you can't kill them if YOU'VE decided that they don't have to die. You're deciding who should live/die instead of letting the Many Faced God have that person's life. You can't do that as an assassin. That's why Arya fails her tests twice. She just can't get rid of her sense of self, the way she was raised, her sense of justice, her empathy.

I disagree with the whole "this is proof" thing, which I explained at greater length in a different reply to like my last eps comment.
For this ep no one asserts "Hold the door" is a deviation per se. That stuffs about what I said in my other comments.

In all fairness, there was a lot to process in these two episodes and I can see them missing it in the first few minutes after watching two eps. I expect that once they have time to process it they will discuss it further before the next two, it really is one of the most heartbreaking character deaths in the show. It is also one of the things that point to GRRM telling the show writers where the story was going, they were not just doing their own thing, Hodor was always going to 'hold the door,' show or book.

I am loving watching these episodes with you. One suggestion, never skip a recap, even if you just watched the last episode. they’ll pull shit from as far back as season one sometimes, just to remind the viewer of certain events, as they’re likely going to relate to what is about to happen in the next episode.

The play is so interesting. It really demonstrates who gets to write history. The play is based on the story that was spread about what happened in King's Landing. The Lannisters won that "battle" so they got to control the story that the common people consumed.

Don't dwell on comments about Jon coming back to life, you only had a week to digest what happened, and we had a year to analyze the hints that pointed to that possibility. Brann is important and you see it already, good for you. I found the character arcs of the Stark kids were the most fascinating aspect of the show, and in the final seasons it gets real interesting. Knock the show runners all you want, I think they did well weaving all the subplots into the main story line. Buckle up, the ride is about to get crazy!

Hodor became Hodor when the three eyed raven became aware that Bran would eventually have to replace him, and warged into Wylis to make him Bran’s protector. He saw it all coming. When GOT first aired I was like “Uncle Euron? More like Uncle Urine!” Needless to say he’s not my favorite character. Haha The rest of season 6 is 🔥

Hodor's original name was Wylis. When Bran warged into Hodor to get out of the cave while already warging, it caused the childhood version Wylis to go into a life changing seizure that damaged his brain. While in the seizure, he saw his older self dying from wights while holding the door. He heard Meera screaming "Hold the door!" and he began repeating it and slurring it into Hodor. The mental trauma altered his childhood brain and made him simple-minded and only able to say the word "Hodor."
So, for his entire life Hodor saw his death coming over and over because he was holding that door. One of the saddest deaths of this season and maybe the show. (I hope my explanation was correct and helps!)
Thanks for the reaction! Can't wait for the next 4 episodes! It's epic!!

Bran isn’t warging when he’s visiting the past; In addition to being a warg, Bran has the “power of sight” to see the past and into the future. Warging helps him to see the present anywhere. As I understand it, all of the Stark children have these gifts but Bran’s is strongest because he’s always with his direwolf and near warewood trees, and being trained to be The Three-Eyed Raven. The other Stark children have either lost their direwolves and/or have been away from warewoods in the North. Rickon and Jon are pretty powerful with these gifts as well but the show didn’t highlight it much.

Damn. I wish you'd taken a second to process Hodor's death before jumping right into the next episode. It's a momentous, tragic, and mind-bending development!
Long story short, Bran is the one who fucked up Willys/Hodor by warging into him in the past. Young Willys essentially experienced his own violent death and it fucked up him up and basically turned his brain to mush. It's incredibly tragic.
It's good to let moments like these breathe a bit. The revelation that Hodor is this way because of... Bran inflicted this trauma upon him is supposed to be huge! Ah well.
Great reaction otherwise.

In regard to the play, it is more of how the external world views the events of Game of Thrones so far and how the free cities view the cultures in Westeros with some heavy stereotypes… like Northerners being dumb, and dwarves being evil etc. We happen to see the real version of events so we have a different perspective than the rest of the world.
