X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009)

It was cool to find out why things are the way they are in this universe!

It was extremely fun!

Upon rewatching this I can see that the actor who played Gambit was quite mediocre, I was just so excited to see my favorite character (at least tied for favorite with Cyclops) that I over praised his performance.

Lucile Byrd

That's part of what I said in another comment, but just the fact that Gambit was even on screen was just .... indescribable as a fan. Watching it again, they actually did a decent intro, but of course cut nowhere near the deep end, which they'd probably intended to do if it did better? Ah, I totally thought of someone the other day, now I forget...but Rogue and Gambit are my absolute favs, and Idk if I can forgive a second time for either of them. But there are also so many iterations, what a universe!

Charissa Kay

I absolutely love watching it through the eyes of new fans! It gets me right in the childhood when you find the same things cool that I did when I was 8 (and still geek on about today) 😂😂😂.

I do enjoy this one, not my favorite. Having never read the comics beforehand I didn't have some of the issues other people did with this one. Anyways, when you get to Deadpool, keep this movie in mind but don't expect the story to be anything like this. I would say it's like a reboot for him (but in the way that he's more like what he's meant to be). But have fun.

ShittyShittyGameGang

i agree with this thread! love hearing from you guys and we love to watch movies and dive into universes with yall bc of how great your insight is! love it yall!

Mr. October

Well they simply rebooted it many times so there basically can't be continuity within reboots, especially if they already have diversions from the source material. They did Phoenix Saga twice and cocked it up both times. House of M adaptation also counts as an attempted (slightly failed) reboot to me lol. Now onto the 5th? But they already disappointed me in first waves with mah favs Rogue and Gambit. Gooped & Gagged. 😒😅

Charissa Kay

When you get to "The Wolverine" movie, I'd suggest the director's cut. It has added and extend scenes that make the flow of the circumstances and characters make a bit more sense.

Thadman

What a great conversation, and terrific insights both of you have.

CheshireKat528

Yes the X-Men movies are notorious for disregarding continuity and timelines. From here on out just take each movie for what it is and enjoy the ride 😜

CheshireKat528

I like your comments and takes. Good to see a fellow die hard fan. On a sidenote, I hope that in a future movie/show we get a proper adoptation of gambit. Done right he can be a fan favorite. Also fun to speculate who would be a good actor to portrait/embody him.

Lifehouse

Just watch the rest of the movies, and the rest of GoT, then go back and see who wrote this one, and it will all make even more sense 😅. I will say though that they did a good job showing how dangerous Sabretooth is because of his homicidal lust. Sabertooth is like the only real threat to Logan (and anyone) not because of his powers, but because of how determined he is to kill. And Gambit is the mthfkg coolest, don't sleep! I keep adding cuz I'm watching still lol but this is essentially a prequel to the first ones, Logan hasn't met the X-Men yet, they haven't formed, but the timeline is all over the place so don't worry about it much. First class would be like in tandem with this movie.

Charissa Kay

Yeah this is so sad, especially for people who are just used to the Avengers MCU plotlines, or shows like GoT, really mapping out a progression to a particular conclusion. It might have been better to watch all the movies in release order, because now it's just bits and pieces here and there, which as I said before can be so cool to fans familiar with the source material, but just confusing and adding too many unanswered questions for recent fans. They're still fun and interesting and a great introduction to the original material, but there's a certain expectation that isn't met this way.

Charissa Kay

Outside of the MCU storyline/plotline, the Marvel movies are all over the place. Some directors just eyeballed it ya'know. Just keep that in mind moving forward. That being said.. they can be very entertaining, its just unfortunate that it teaches new marvel fans wrong backstory info.

Lifehouse

omg I am so excited for them to watch Deadpool haha One of my favorite characters!

Reaction Junkie

Wolverine is Canadian. So is Deadpool, who you will soon meet and enjoy

Victatchewan

Oh, the "Deadpool" films! The Octobers are going to have to practice not talking much, as they'll miss some of the 'crazy' lines if they do. On second thought, they'll be laughing too much to talk...

JIM SCHMITZ

"Are you Remy LeBeau?" "Do I owe you money?" " No" "Then Remy LeBeau, I am."

Michael Taylor

Gambit was my favorite Xmen growing up

Kevin Whitted

In my opinion, the X men movies get much better from here. Aside from a couple duds, First Class, Days of Futures Past, Deadpool 1 & 2, and Logan are all great...continuity be damned i guess

Israel

There’s some winners yet to come. Imo The Wolverine is decent and Logan is crazy good. On the X-men side I liked first class and Days of Future Past is one of my favorite superhero movies.

Alex Gonzalez

The continuity is all jacked up in this movie. Victor is Sabertooth. Why didn't Logan recognize him in Xmen 1 ? How can Charles be walking when he was paralized much earlier than this? How does Scott not know Logan in Xmen 1? Then there's "Deadpool". uggggh. He is MUCH different in the Deadpool movie. It's really best to just forget about this movie because it will not make any sense when you get to the rest of the Xmen movies. Everything really starts to go downhill from here, In my opinion. Marvel is gonna reboot the Xmen soon. It is sorely needed because they are really some great characters that Fox just screwed up big time. You will see down the road. You will love Deadpool, though. Raunchy, inappropriate humor everywhere with that one. Funny as hell, too!!

DarrellWaller

Yeah, timelines and continuity are about to get a little messy with the next few X-Men movies so just kind of go with the flow. Other than Wolverine's brother and weapon x project part you can basically forget everything else in this movie. None of the other movies acknowledge the events of this film so don't get confused when there are contradictions.

Quinten Shibusawa

Next up is X-Men first class

asia roberson

There are some goofy moments in this one for sure. Wolverine chopping up the fire escape as it falls with Gambit on it...that's just goofy. I like the story in this one and the addition of characters. Like we've been saying there are soooo many X-men. Their stories intertwine and it's complex, you'll see and we're here for it. Nobody loves every movie the same amount so feel free to have your opinions. That was a good catch that Scott's eyes were covered so he doesn't remember Logan. Keep up those perception skills, the little details are fun to catch. Y'all might need a notebook for X-men lol

Sir_Dalagad

Keepin' the ball rolling, I see. I'm not sure I've seen this one.

JIM SCHMITZ

Nah it's okay. This wasnt a great movie at all. Lol. By the way not sure if you realized but his brother is actually Sabretooth. Do you remember him from the 1st movie? According to the producer by the time the 2000s come in, Sabertooth became more animal like and lost his memory. which is why he didn't even realize Wolverine was his brother in the 1st movie. Although he was clearly very fascinated by him. But yeah overall not the best movie.

Jonny

I think this is most people's least favorite xmen movie but its still got some fun in it And FYI you can pretty much forget about this movie now, They basically erased it from canon with the future movies so if you get confused about the chronological stuff then thats why. They change the origin of how characters met each other and met charles and everything especially deadpool, they throw that shit out and totally reboot it lol

Christian

Also in the comics Wolverine was in the war with captain America I think he was even part of his group

Gio Bellisario

Mr. October you my dawg for calling him Cotton Weary lol. Also, can NOT wait for you all to see X-men First Class, my personal favorite in the whole series!

HypeVision

You can not offend fans more than this movie does.

Jay Owin

Also don’t feel bad about not liking some of these prequel movies. MOST fans are going to agree with you lol. There are going to be a few more that are not so great in my opinion. But there are also some upcoming ones that I think are the very best in the entire franchise, and some of the best comic book movies of all time.

imperial

The Deadpool movies are not connected to this. Most people hated the way they did him in this movie, including Ryan Reynolds. He gives us a much better Wade Wilson in the Deadpool movies, with a better origin story.

imperial

Hey guys please do not pay attention to how they did Deadpool in this film it is LAUGHABLE 😂 nowhere near the comics.

Tayshawn Williams

😂😂I know right . Just wait until they watch Deadpool the movie they will understand everything about this version🤣

Tayshawn Williams

Don't remind me, so glad they got it right eventually...

Peter K

Wade Wilson is the name of the guy that plays Deadpool. He is actually Deadpool in this film😭

Tayshawn Williams

Btw to answer your question…….HELL YEAH😂😂😂 we definitely had pencils, pens, markers whatever we could use to use for wolverine claws😂😂😂

Tayshawn Williams

Omg you guys are quick💙🫶🏽

Tayshawn Williams

Thanks for the heads up in YT

Jay Owin

Brave lads diving into this one! I’ll get dinner situated and watch this for the first time in years lol
