A little backstory about the 3 Elven rings: unlike the other rings which Sauron ensnared, those three were protected from corruption when their maker discovered Sauron's plot and hid them. So now their wielders use them to resist evil.

2023-09-18 03:02:58 +0000 UTCJust finished watching this, one of the best reactions I've seen. Many of the extended version added scenes expanded on the lore. One that I consider essential is Galadriel revealing she carries one of the three Elven rings just after she "passes the test". That confirms that she is one of the great powers in Middle Earth. As you guessed, this is one movie split in three. All of it was filmed together for continuity. Most of the locations are in New Zealand, and for the making of "The Hobbit" films the Hobbiton set was rebuilt as a permanent site, now a great tourist attraction.
