Release of the Pepper&Carrot self-published comics books in English version!

Two weeks ago, was the launch of the self-published English books of Pepper&Carrot!

★ Quick recap about the last months:
Making my own self-published books with Pepper&Carrot was a big project I started in 2017[1] and I finalized during last summer. It was arguably one of the greatest source of slowdown between the production of new episodes from 2019 to now. Making this books with only Free/Libre and Open Source software from scratch was also a real challenge and required in all 7 pass of print-proof(!) and countless of adjustments. In September and October, I spent most of my time working on the release material: videos, product pages, webdesign of the shop and I also took commissions: an illustration for the Free Software Foundation[2], the mascots for Spritely[3] and the illustrations for the V1 of Mobilizon [4].
★ The release of the books:
I shared on 15 October the release video everywhere I could (video above in the header of this post). I quickly was very impressed by the feedback: 235 books sold the first day, 555 the first week and 777 today after the second week. I made drawings on my recent blog posts to illustrate that. Thank you very much if you purchased them!
★ And Patreon?
This evening, I realized I forgot to communicate this announcement here on Patreon. I had to fix that in case you don't follow my work via social media or RSS because my "Special Launch Offer" sale ends on Saturday 31 (in three days). So, better late than never and here is your chance to get them while they're cheap!
★ End of the month
Will it reach 1000 books sold by the end of the month? No idea, but that would be amazing! I'll post the result on 1st November on social-media and blog(RSS).
Oh, and last note: a detail about the books that you might like: your names appears at the end of the three comic books (photo under). The credits were copied from the ending of previous episode 33: The Spell of War[5]. So thank you very much again for your support: without it; I would never have drawn over 200 comic pages and published three books plus an Artbook! You took a big part in making all of this possible.
I'll work hard to release a future Pepper&Carrot episode as soon as possible, optimist ETA: end November... Realistic: first week of December. I'll share productions reports on the blog.

My release preparation process is: update visual version in ewstitle.tex, update technical version in configure.ac, run make distcheck.

There’s an additional configure.ac, but that’s only needed to run a full make distcheck from autoconf+automake (it includes a not-so-nice hack at the end in the AC_CONFIG_LINKS line, because I couldn’t find how to simply link all datafiles to the build directory so my non-relocatable-root tools work well with them). With that it is pretty nice to be able to simply run make distcheck and know that the package it builds includes everything others need to reproduce the build — and it checks whether the required tools are available. Is it possible to create some higher patron tiers for individual supporters? There is a big gap between individuals and companies, and I am sure there may be some who would like to have a higher tier for supporting such a lovingly and time consuming product that is a wonderful example of the quality that can be produced from the open source community. I now realize I should have written about all the hacks I have in Makefiles of my RPG books just to keep the different parts of the print project from falling over. 2020-10-30 01:52:12 +0000 UTCJe ne pense pas: Glénat font très bien le travail et arrivent à sortir un livre d'une qualité similaire pour 10€50 disponible dans toutes les librairies. En plus ils sont les premier mécène ici avec 900$ par épisode (un livre contient aux alentour de 7 à 10 épisodes). Alors en comparaison, moi et mes 700 ventes à 1.5€ de bénéfice pour cinq mois de travail à plein temps je suis une abération de productivité xD Je suis en contact avec eux et ils m'ont remercier de toute la transparence sur mon projet d'auto-édition (ils ont même commandé les 4 livres Anglais pour voir comment j'avais fait ça). On synchronisera la sortie du livre 4 en anglais pour moi et français pour eux (rentrée 2021, c'est encore loin). Si jamais dans le future; ils arriverait qu'il ne peuvent plus finir la série; alors là oui. Je mettrai un point d'org à raconter mon histoire jusqu'a la fin et proposer des tomes complémentaire en français. Voilà tout mon projet pour le moment.

More seriously, I earn around 1,5€ per book sold (hardcover/softcover/PDF, format doesn't matter) and with the benefits I'll buy a new computer because my 10y/o one is reaching end of life. I'll post on the blog the computer I bought with that. My life on summer was covered with patronage of episode 33 and comissions. I'll continue comissions in parrallal of the production of episode 34.

2020-10-30 01:32:31 +0000 UTCHa Pardon je n'ai pas été assez clair, c'est le site DriveThruComics qui ne fonctionne pas super, le votre est nickel 🙂, principalement, en version mobile, je n'avais pas le bouton pour passer la commande, dans le panier alors qu'en version desktop, tout est bon. Quelques problèmes visuels mineurs étaient présents aussi.

Merci pour le retour sur l'utilisation de la page sur téléphone mobile. J'ai fait des test ici sur Firefox en mode "mobile" et avec mon petit Motorola; mais ça ne doit pas représenter tous les écrans dispos donc dur dur à tester. Est-ce que vous vous souvenez du problème? Ca m'aiderai car je fait l'écriture et la maintenance de tout ça tout seul et artisanalement ^___^ Merci!
