I Remember Why I Stopped Making Tutorial Videos
Added 2020-04-22 16:31:56 +0000 UTCIf you saw this post, you'll know that I have/had 3 install .sh videos planned for the weeks ahead.
I already released one of them - the video about using Lutris to play Windows games. I'm currently working on the SteamPlay video and ugh it has reminded me why I stopped making videos like these.
Videos that involve games or gaming are a chore because capturing the footage isn't easy and capturing the right footage is even harder. For example, in editing, I realized I didn't capture enough footage of Steam's setting menu while enabling SteamPlay, so now I have to go back and capture more.
This might sound easy but it happens all the time and it gets old fast. Not to mention, if the window isn't in the right spot, I need to make a transition between cuts, which is jarring. It's just a bunch of little things that make the process drag on and on.
I've decided to cut the VMware video from the planned video backlog because these damn videos just take too long to produce. And they provide very little value.
If I had more free time to spend on video production, I might do more one-off videos. But between work & family life, I just don't have extra time to waste on videos that provide little value.
This post is a bit more negative than normal. I am super grateful that Distro Delves is a thing because I enjoy producing those videos as much as you guys like watching them. Tutorial videos are such a drag to make.
I'm looking forward to getting back onto the Distro Delves train!
