Channel Milestone & Sneak Peek

The channel hit a milestone today, reaching the 18,000 subscriber mark. If you've followed me for any length of time, you'll know I don't pay much attention to these numbers.

Thing is, the Egee channel is fueled largely by viewers flocking to the tech videos. These viewers are often times developers Googling or whatever, and rarely subscribe. So, the larger number, 3,595,398 views 🚀, is more relevant.

But what does this mean? 

It means that the channel is kicking ass and can survive on its own without needing a regular schedule to keep people interested. 🤘

Prior to my hiatus, I followed a common "1 video per week" schedule. Since I have a full time job, family, and lots of other responsibilities, I would sometimes cut corners to finish a video faster to meet the schedule, which sacrificed quality.

But no longer!

Possibly the single biggest change to the channel for me is the weekly schedule; it's getting tossed out. I'm setting an unofficial minimum of "1 video per month" but it'll probably be closer to 2 or 3 videos per month.

I'm also beginning to internally categorize my videos to better understand what my audience is looking for. YouTube analytics are great, but I have a method that works better for me.

I've also been using polls on YouTube to get a better feel for what people want to see prior to producing a video. Are people interesting in watching some game dev stuff? Or maybe crypto-currency? It's great to be able to ask people if they'd be interested about a topic before diving head first into making a video about it.

Aside from Egee channel stuff, I'm still working on updating the Patreon tiers so that people feel more involved by supporting the channel and community. Stay tuned for a future post on this!
