Sketch Collection | June-September 2019

I finally found some time to go through my files from the last few months to compile a small collection for you :') You can download the PDF for high-res images or just read this post for some commentary on the drawings! 💙 [ ⚠ tiny NSFW warning ⚠ ]

→ This is no one in particular, I just had a kind of vague idea one night when I couldn't sleep and I wanted to sketch it out real quick just to get it out of my head. There was more to it than just this but I felt content enough after doodling this and just stopped there and never touched it again xD

→ These are some of the face studies I did back in June, most of them are too atrocious to look at so I'm not including them here, but I'm comfortable enough with sharing these, lol. I had a bit of a phase where I was just so unhappy with how I drew faces, I felt like I'd forgotten where eyes go, what shape they are, the relations between different facial features, spiced up with a side of how do I improve lighting/shadows/contrast. I don't think I really learned much during this stage, but it distracted me from my dissatisfaction and helped me move on with work.

→ ⊙0⊙)) Is that our boys doing the devil's tango? It sure is. These were part of my preparation for the library fun times in the last chapter, and a random Link thrown in because he's a good boy and I love him.

→ Seth and Gilbert, two semi-new OCs I created with fanta! They're based on some character creator thing (images included above) and quickly developed a life of their own. Almost all these doodles were done on the same day, I was on a roll XD I love our bunny and snake boys...............

→  Quick Zen doodle from August. No particular reason, I simply miss him and Jumin sometimes and Zen is always fun to draw :') I used this image to experiment a little with some colouring techniques.

→  Random doodles to warm up. I noticed I'm out of practise when it comes to just casual sketching, so I'm trying to do that more often now.

→ Ayden & Misha. I've been thinking about them a lot lately, so naturally I had to sketch them :') I would like to finish both sketches at some point! I love them so much, one day I wanna tell you more about them T _T)

→  You may have seen the finished version on Insta/Twitter already, but here's the sketch for it, too! Trying my hand at more loose lineart with a different brush than usual, plus a more messy colouring technique (lots of merged down layers and painting over areas again so that all colours are kinda mixed together and look like there's some kind of filter going on).

→  All sketches from yesterday. I decided to invest the entire day in trying to understand how human limbs work when looked at from different angles. Bird's eye view is something I struggle with a lot so I rarely use it. Which is bad, because it limits what I can do with my art, so I want to improve it. About half of these are sketched from reference, the other half from imagination. It will take me some time to really absorb what's going on here, I'm good at copying and memorising but I'm a very slow learner, so while I'm sure I can replicate things from references well enough, it's going to take me ages until I can comfortably say that I understand how this stuff works. It's fun tho! Always good to use your brain every once in a while lololol.

→ And lastly, my boy Charon from my comic "Shallow Sleep". I get a lot of questions asking when SS will continue and I have definitely not forgotten about it, nor do I plan on abandoning it! But there's only so much I can juggle at once. It will take some time, but I will definitely tell their story to the end.
This was my warm-up this morning, I enjoy drawing Charon so much, his long hair is just so fun to sketch T uT) I'd like to finish this one maybe! Use it as another exercise to practise loose lineart and use of colour.

Aaaand that's all for now! 💕💕💕

hahah i love alex meyers!! my partner showed me his channel a few weeks ago and i've been watching almost all his videos since then, despite not knowing half of the films/shows he talks about lol and yes, exactly!! it's hard to go from "ok i memorised this exact pose in this angle, now i can draw it" to "ok i know what i'm doing, i've absorbed the wisdom and can now draw other angles from imagination" XD i will always double check with reference pics and i'm sure pretty much everyone does that, but i /want/ to understand in my brain how things work. gimme knowledgggee. it is such a fun process tho, and every time a lighbulb lights up in my head when i figure out a small thing is so worth it haha also never apologise for leaving long comments, i always enjoy reading them :D good luck with your art, too !!

"devils tango" good to know I'm not the only one who watches Alex Meyers LOL. But honestly I love seeing sketches and all the drawings you've done, you're so good but I honestly love to see your process! Also may i just say as a person who also draws (but doesn't have the confidence to post it online yet) I TOTALLY get looking at references and like being able to copy and memorize them but not being able to fully comprehend them. Like perspective is such an interesting thing but sometimes it's just so hard to grasp and on top of that having accurate anatomy is just ansjknkjs. Anyway I always love seeing things from you and i'm honestly get so excited when i see you posted something. Can't wait to see more from you as always! (also sorry for the word vomit as i just woke up and i honestly have a hard time restricting what i say lol.)
