Art Summary (2010-2018)

Hello gemlins! πŸ’™

The year isn't over yet and I have more things to come for you, but I decided today would be a good day to put together my art summary for 2018 :')

Looking at it now I realise that my colour schemes this year have all been very similar, but that's not a bad thing, purple, blue and pink are very nice colours after all |D Despite some slower weeks during the start and the middle of 2018, I managed to pick up the pace again and draw as much as I could. The end result is 130+ comic pages (MUTED and Shallow Sleep) and around 100 other pieces of art, half of which are finished illustrations. Not that bad, I think.

I felt like I was so focused on MUTED all year (with the exception of July-September), so I was surpsied to see that I still managed to sneak in a couple of fanarts, too! That gives me hope for 2019, maybe I will be able to realise my dream of a second FFXV fanbook after all, haha.

Also, the pic for December already teases this month's couple artwork, which I will be posting for $5 gemlins soon x)

Furthermore, I've been making these art summaries every year for the past 8 years, so I thought it'd be fun to show the other ones, too! I'll go backwards starting with 2017, to slowly ease you into the badly drawn art from my past self dsgfdsjf

2017

2017 didn't only get an art summary but also an Ignoct summary, because I drew them SO MUCH and they deserved their own review X'D Much of the year was fanart, only occasional OC moments, no Jasper or Kai yet, as I'd only started the comic in the second half of the year and at that point didn't have good art of them to show yet. My preferred colour scheme of pink/purple/blue already started to show, but otherwise things are still a bit more colourful. Also lotsa people with closed eyes, I guess I wanted everyone to sleep and rest when I couldn't.

2016

A very bright and colourful year, I drew Ayden and Misha quite a bit, I was working on their story a lot that year. I remember I was in quite a slump for most of the year, my passion only really came back to me when Mystic Messenger happened and I felt inspired to draw again. Also quitting my day job definitely lifted my spirits big time :') I see a lot of improvement when I compare January to December, which is nice.

2015

πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ This year was like 99% Haikyuu!!, or rather Kurotsuki. Again, a bit of a slump from May to July, I wasn't really sure where to go from there, but by the end of the year I'd settled into my style again. The art from this year is mostly simple, hardly any backgrounds, I was super focused on just drawing the boys interacting in any shape or form.

2014

A strange year, omg. It felt like a transitional period from Free! into HQ!!, also style-wise. I'd drawn a ton of Reigisa, then Kurotsuki happened and it was a learning process to once again adapt my art to these new characters to make them look as good as my skillset back then allowed. There was also a lot of abuse of layer modes, LOL, by the end of the year I feel like I'd finally learned how to use them to my advantage without making everyone look like shiny plastic. I believe this was also the year I abandoned SAI for Clip Studio Paint. Best decision of my life tbh :')

2013

Notice how every year is full of one fandom XD? The beginning of 2013 shows the last bits of Supernatural art, a few months of me dabbling in various other things and then going full Free!/Reigisa. Also it was a VERY colourful year.

2012

I drew nothing but REALLY SHITTY Supernatural chibis that year, ohmygod. But they were so much fun to do and pretty popular on Tumblr x'D It was the first time I got so much attention from a fandom, so I was pretty happy with myself. Also as much as I would have loved to draw decent SPN art, I sure as heck didn't know how to make these beautiful humans equally beautiful with my animu style. So I didn't even try a lot and just stuck to shitposty art, lol. The February piece is connected to very fond memories, too, I was asked to design a mascot for an award for Misha Collins' charity Random Acts, and the team sent me a whole print of my designs signed by Misha as a thank you 😭 I still have it.

2011

This year was all over the place. Traditional art, digital art, Shallow Sleep, random OCs, some fanart. What even was going on back then, lol.

2010

And finally, 2010. I worked with copic markers and coloured pencils a lot back then! Ah, looking at these pieces now... I miss that ; _;) I sure had a lot of time on my hands, some of these pieces took so so long, I am definitely much faser digitally. My "style" was very much all over the place, lots of experimental phases, but I still see quite a few details that connect these images to my art today. Looking at them also makes me want to get out my coloured pencils right this moment to try and see if I can still work with them like back then, lol.

And unfortunately, that's it ; _;) Going backwards was a good idea, it feels like my 2010 stuff isn't even as embarrassing as I'd initially thought x))

I hope you enjoyed this short trip into my past! :')) Which one of these is your fave LOL

Comments

Somewhere I also have an "improvement meme" thing from my deviantart days that goes even further back to like 2003 or something XD That might be interesting too?? We all start out crap, but it's so much fun to see what direction we went in over the years and where we ended up in the present *_*)))

kandismon

That was very interesting! Thank you for sharing your art journey since 2010!!! I always find it fun to see where an artist that I liked started before being who they were (and when did I join them in their journey XD). It does inspire me to draw more!

Inuki
