I Fixed The Wheego!

The Wheego's fix was extremely easy! Too bad my camera forgot how to focus

I Fixed The Wheego!

Comments

Glad to hear it's fixed. I wonder what else uses that battery just for Craps and laughs.

Stephen Greer

Outstanding. Let's hear it for the simple fixes.

Designed and Made in USA with global materials.

Gen 1 Leafs (Leaves?) are also prone to this. Failing 12v will cause the cause to just go haywire throwing all kinds of random codes. It is so common in the Volt community, that people just automatically tell anyone reporting issues to check the 12v battery first. Its almost a joke in itself... Flat tire? Check the 12v battery! Broken window? Check the battery!

This is an incredibly common thing with many EVs and PHEVs. Leafs, Chevy Volts (both generations), and even Tesla. There have even been reports of Volts randomly powering down while driving down the road due to a failed 12v battery dragging the 12v system down with it. It kinda makes sense though.... In most of these cars all of the control electronics are powered by the 12v system. If it fails, then the whole car is going to.

It sounds like this is a common thing with EVs, but if the DC-DC converter is keeping the 12v battery topped up, I'm surprised that the 12v battery fails at all. I'm also surprised that the Wheego responds to a weak battery by turning on the dashboard... like "I see you've got a shortage on power, so I'll take everything I can and leave the rest of these sinners with nothing, muahahah!"

I've spent more of my free time than I 'd like to admit watching someone take apart a Prius transaxle on that channel 😜

Perhaps one problem the Wheego has with the Gen 1 Chevy Volt is that the car will have a proper meltdown when the 12V battery starts to fail and it won't be able to power the control modules. Instead of saying: Hey your 12V is busted! it throws all sorts of unrelated codes and might not power on the propulsion system. I wonder how many other EVs have this problem.

Nick Elrod

now come on, don't be so negative. It'll do it again at some point lol.

Quite possibly. We'll never know

Aging Wheels

Just disconnecting the batteries was probably the thing that fixed it.

Yougo? Igo? Wheego!!

Weberauto Youtube-channel has done quite a few videos of how to remove EV-batteries. If you're unsure of the procedure (or its safety) it might be worth checking out, if you already haven't. Ofcourse it won't make for as entertaining video as this, but safety first I'd say nonetheless.

The wheego liveees!

I'm happy to see you're making videos again dude!
