Possible Mirific Subtitles

I’ve been thinking lately about Jim’s transition from Kid Sensation to Mirific (which I’ve previously stated would be his “cape” name as an adult). I’m not talking about the transition in the storyline – I think I’ve got that worked out. What I’m talking about is the descriptive transition/title for the books.

Basically, most of the books in the series have a subtitle along the lines of “Kid Sensation #___,” with a numerical indicator of where that title falls in the series. Obviously, when Jim adopts the handle of Mirific, it won’t seem appropriate to keep the “Kid Sensation” subtitle. That said, I’m not sure if an abrupt switch to “Mirific #1” evidences the requisite tie-in. That being the case, I’ve played around with variations – e.g., “A Kid Sensation/Mirific Novel” – to represent the transition, but that really seems like a mouthful. (Plus, I’m not sure about the jump from that to a flat “Mirific #2”)

The good news, though, is that Amazon now has some tools to help with stuff like this. It wasn’t possible before, but now authors can specify when a book is related to – but not necessarily a part of – another series. For instance, I was able to indicate that Smoked ties into the Kid Sensation novels during the publishing process. That said, I’m not sure how well it works, because when I go to the Kid Sensation series page on Amazon, it only shows Extraction and Amped as related stories.

Anyway, I’m still kicking around ideas on this front (and probably making it harder than it needs to be). But, as usual, I’m confident it will all work out. Also, I should probably stress again that the aforementioned discussion is about the subtitle; the main title will probably adhere in some way to the current naming convention.
