First Render of "Replication" Cover Art

If all goes well, some time in the next few weeks I'll probably be posting the cover art for Isolation (Kid Sensation #8). In the meantime, I thought I'd go ahead and post the early cover art that was done for Replication (KS #6):

Looking at it now, this one probably requires some explanation. Basically, in the story, Jim's grandfather is rejuvenated and made young again. Thus, my cover artist and I were toying with the notion of putting an old man on the cover and attempting to show his transition into someone younger.

Needles to say, that didn't happen.  In fact, I don' think we even progressed to the point of making the image more reflective of the character.  In essence, it occurred to me that with a few tweaks we could probably just put Kid Sensation on the cover, which is what we ultimately did:

In essence, we lost the old man, changed the stance, got rid of the sunglasses, and altered the hair.  Believe it or not, it was actually the hair that was the most difficult item to settle on.  Every time I looked at the hair in the first render, I kept thinking, "Bruno Mars."  (Not that there's anything wrong with Bruno Mars - he's a fine singer - but I didn't think the look went with the character.) My cover artist actually sent multiple covers with different hairstyles in an effort to make me happy, and we finally decided on the one above.

As you can probably guess by now, the cover process is both exciting and a little nerve-racking, and it sometimes takes multiple iterations to get the final product.  I count myself fortunate to have a cover artist who works pretty hard to give me what I want.
