May Newsletter

Hi everyone! This is your May newsletter as written by me, Octy, with the occasional contribution from a rat or two as they scamper over the keyboard. Ok, I’m under no illusion that it’s been 20 entire months since any sort of regular monthly update. I am really sorry. My mental health took a kicking and the very idea of writing all my thoughts and plans down for everyone to read was really not appealing.

But that’s about to change! I’ve got a brand new PA on board who will be helping me out with admin, organising, and kicking my arse into gear when it needs to be kicked! So, monthly newsletters are back, along with a few other things that I’m really excited about. Although first, I want to say thank you to all the new subscribers who’ve joined up recently, and everyone who’s continued to support me this far. You lot are excellent, and I can’t thank you enough for everything you’ve given.

Twitch Update

WE DID IT! I’m finally a verified Twitch partner! All it took was two unsuccessful applications, plenty of headaches, and 34674364365 emails, but we got there! Thank you so much to everyone who follows me over there on Octavius_King, it really means the world to me. Now, you can watch me mard about in real time with a fancy purple tick next to my name. Ooooh, the exclusivity!

Videos Planned this month!

If it all goes to plan, I’ll be uploading 4 new videos in May:

1) A video about Sachen “adult” NES unlicensed games. I warn you, it’s about to get hotter than the inside of a McDonalds apple pie up in here.

2) A video on the worst puzzle game ever put onto a games console. Pyramid. God help me.

3) Action 52. A 52-game compilation released on the NES in1991. From shitty shooters to pretty-fucking-terrible platformers. Not going to cover the Mega Drive version too, because I can only handle so much utter baubles.

4) The Strange Case of the Cheetamen – a deep dive into the featured game of Action 52. Pray for me.

So, fingers, toes, and - whatever else you can cross – crossed! Heck knows imma need it.

Update on Me

I’m still studying at university, which means that some of my Twitch viewers may have to withstand various stuff I’ve written. I’m writing a few songs for an assignment, which I’ll be performing and testing on a stream or two, so be sure to tune in if you fancy a free gig/hearing test.

When I’ve not been doing Uni or making videos, I’ve been playing Super Paw-N. It's a chess game made by a small indie company called Mega Cat Studios, but all the pieces are adorable cats. I love it so much. I also cracked out a bit of X-2; I had it on Playstation growing up, it's a space shooter that continues to absolutely kick my arse 20 years later.

But it’s not all been fun. I found this game called Pyramid while researching for one of next month's videos, and I cannot express how bad it is. I highly recommend it if you need a reason to pull your own eyeballs from your skull.

Patreon Changes

In the next few weeks, the Patreon tiers are going to be jiggled about a bit and a few more options will open up. While streaming has become a big focus for me, I want my content to focus on you guys a bit more. I mean, I take a look at all your suggestions and donations and try and make the best stuff possible with what I have, but I want to make more of it happen. So, watch this space… and the inevitable breakdowns I’ll have along the way.

Any Planned Octav1us Appearances

Due to the fact there is a smol, so smol, so-smol-it-can-hardly-be-seen pandemic I haven’t got any live, in person appearances coming up. But as lockdown slowly starts to lift, I’ll keep you updated if that changes!

Although, I’m currently in the process of trying to convince Guru Larry to do a watch party livestream with me where we take a look at some of the TERRIBLE Dingo Pictures cartoons that Phoenix Software put on to PS1 and PS2 games.

Rats Rats Rats

We got rats! Oh boy do we got rats! HOT NEW RATS! For anyone who hasn’t seen them scampering around on stream yet, say hello to the Reverend Teacake and her sister, Detective Sergeant Trifles.

LOOKIT! SOFT, MENTAL, LOVELY ANGELS.

You’ll probably be seeing a lot more of these two on my streams and videos as they get settled and come out of their shells a bit more. I think you’ll love them.

Teacake clearly can’t wait to be on a stream. Absolute mad lass.

In slightly less good news, Officer Waffles has developed a lump which I'm closely monitoring. He's still a happy largeboi. Professor Flapjacks is also doing well, and he’s managing his chronic condition well. But on the whole, the rats are living their best, absolutely chaotic little lives.
