Hannah made some really good points about sneaker culture, ADHD, and earned coolness. Great episode.

One aspect about subcommunities that I wanted to bring up, as someone who's both a minority and part of some subcultures. Often times there's this tension between your lack of popularity meaning the culture dies out (for instance as a Venezuelan, there's many things I'd love to easily access that I can't cause of where I live), and so popular that it gets "stolen" from you and essentially disfigured from what it was meant to be (hence the death of subculture). That tension is I think a major aspect of subcultures in modern eras. I'd say most of the subcultures I was and am a part of have splintered and being essentially replaced as they've been absorbed by the mainstream. The people that made it what it is will move on to something else and the cycle will repeat. This also made me think of this - https://catvalente.substack.com/p/stop-talking-to-each-other-and-start. Great episode!

I just wanted to say that Taha Khan from Answer In Progress did a video kinda related to this a bit ago - https://youtu.be/tdeKDC_TY0o. I think the requirements on media communications (especially short form) is very different from other situations so you have to adapt accordingly. For some of the activism related work that I do I just have a blanket ban on any jargon or "fancy" words. But if I'm talking to a friend or colleague who I know his well versed in the subject we can use whatever language we want. I think what matters is an understanding of who you're talking to, that's just my opinion though
