Someone misremembered something about this walkway in Dark Souls 1, but...

There's an interesting reddit thread here titled "Who remembers when the Undead Parish bridge would collapse after crossing it?".

It turns out OP was just mistaken, this walkway was never a breakable object and there was never a point where it would actually collapse, not even unpatched on consoles. It's not an object file at all; It's just made up of normal map & collision data, like any other normal segment of wall or floor, so it for sure can't be broken.

But I wondered if there was any evidence of it having been any different earlier in development, and redditor kirkknightofthorns found this footage from the 2011 Gamescom demo which shows that it didn't used to be there at all, forcing you to enter through the front/ main entrance of the church:

Just thought that was a neat observation, it's not a difference from the early demo that I was aware of! It's also funny seeing the placeholder caption pop up under the area title card when the player enters the church shortly after:

It's kind of interesting that the church was given its own title card, but also seeing the developers use a now-unused caption space beneath it, asking themselves if they even wanted to use captions. It's also given a date of "February", indicating they were still deciding how to handle the area title cards within 6 or so months before the game released.
