In this video, I will be discussing the addition of another category to an existing pilot certificate.  This is where a pilot already holds a pilot certificate with either one or more categories (rotorcraft, glider, lighter than air, etc.) and they want to add another, such as an airplane category. Some examples of this would be:

(1) a private rotorcraft pilot who comes into your flight school and wants to train for a private airplane single-engine rating.

(2) You could also say that a Commercially rated glider pilot would like to add a private (or commercial) airplane rating to their existing pilot certificate. Either way, you are simply just adding another category to their pilot certificate.

This all centers around one specific regulation, 14 CFR 61.63(c), and all you have to do is simply follow the directions as directed by the FAA in this very short guidance. However, it never is as simple as we make it out to be. There are several "what if" situations that I will cover in the video, so please let me know if you have any questions regarding how to do this as a CFI.
