V3.2.1 plans | Patreon Weekly #323
Added 2025-08-12 15:29:47 +0000 UTCHey Patrons, in this weekly I’m going to share a little info about my week and plans for v3.2.1 balance changes.
There’s also a new Patreon Poll this week! In this poll I’m going to ask for your thoughts on the pacing for releasing new pixel art for Shattered!
Otakuthon!
I’ve not had a lot of time to work this week because soon after v3.2’s release I headed out east for Otakuthon! I live a pretty decent distance from Montreal, so driving there and back each ate a day in addition to the convention days themselves. The con itself was great: panels were good, I bought some nice things, and got to say hi to my favourite streamer! There was some trouble with hotel room size and food poisoning unfortunately. Hopefully there’ll be less logistical troubles next year.
v3.2.1 Balance Plans
It’s been a week since v3.2 and I’ve got some changes to make based on early balance data. In particular, while they’re still a lot less popular than melee weapons, people are actually upgrading thrown weapons now, which gives me some data on them!
The overall balance related to thrown weapons looks surprisingly good so far! General winrate among base thrown weapons, talents, and the sniper are looking pretty consistent or slightly better versus before.
Throwing clubs & hammers are quite weak atm, leading me to suspect that the ‘no stick’ effect is more often detrimental than helpful. I’m considering giving them a new upside to compensate: no turn penalty when picking them up from the ground.
Kunai are getting a boost to their durability, as currently they’re showing as quite weak.
Boomerangs are either getting a damage scaling nerf or a change to their circle back time. Currently you can keep throwing a set of 3 boomerangs indefinitely, which is very strong.
Force cubes are getting their base damage brought back up, their reduce durability and potential for self-damage are already a big enough offset.
I know many people are a bit unhappy with the shuriken and tomahawk changes, but both are unfortunately still doing quite well, so there isn’t any room to buff them back.
The Berserker and Gladiator change has nudged things in the right direction, the Priest change is doing extremely well in terms of winrate vs Paladin, and I’m considering a few followup buffs to battlemage effects as a few of the new ones are showing as a bit weak.
After these balance changes, I plan to fix a bunch of bugs in v3.2.1, and assuming nothing else crops up that’ll be the last release for old Android and desktop.
