Thrown Weapon Designs
As mentioned before, v3.2 will change up thrown weapons to work in ‘sets’ with a standard quantity (usually 3), and that’s going to have lots of tack-on effects to different mechanics. I don’t have all of these things figured out just yet, but here’s an overview of where things currently stand:
Firstly, as mentioned before as well, thrown weapons will be upgraded as a set, not individually. This also should mean that sets can be enchanted, and also any broken/missing thrown weapons in the set will be repaired by the upgrading. The durability boost per level will be lessened though, from 3x to 1.5x.
Players will still need to pick up thrown weapons after using them, but the item being picked up will probably change from a thrown weapon itself to a special item type exclusively meant to be picked up and re-added to the set it was thrown from. This will be necessary to prevent exploits relating to upgrades repairing broken/missing thrown weapons. If you don’t have the associated set (or the set is a different level) you won’t be able to pick the item up.
Thrown weapons from pre-3.1 saves will carry over, though there might be a little weirdness in the conversion. I do expect that people will highly upgraded solitary weapons will get them bumped to a quantity of 3 though.
Thrown weapons will no longer drop in quantities of 2, 3, or 4, but will instead have a chance to be upgraded, enchanted, or cursed! This should work basically the same way that it does for melee weapons, although upgrades might be a bit less likely.
Lots of specific numbers are likely going to be rebalanced. For starters, durability per thrown weapons will change from 5/10/15 at base to 3/6/9, and I’ll likely be nerfing a few specific thrown weapon mechanics now that they’ll be more spammable and worth upgrading.
I haven’t yet made specific choices for related effects like talents or the ring of sharpshooting, but I expect at least some tweaking will be needed here, especially for talents which are often balanced around how weak upgrading thrown weapons generally is atm. Sharpshooting in particular might not need much change as it’s chief competition (upgrading directly) is getting buffed here.
