A Grid UI for Landmarks! | Patreon Weekly #265
Added 2024-07-01 15:00:15 +0000 UTCHey Patrons, in this weekly I’ve got another new UI to show off, this time for the landmarks journal page!
Landmark Grid
As I’ve shown off in previous weeklies, the catalogs received a new grid-based UI, which made for a bunch of room to massively expand them. The landmarks tab is getting a similar treatment!

Just as before, this journal page automatically fills with entries as you encounter various noteworthy things throughout the dungeon. Thanks to the grid UI and new icons it’s now much, much easier to see what things are where at a glance. I’ve also taken the opportunity to add a few new landmark types, reorder the journal a bit, and add new icons for each journal tab!
Each entry can be tapped to get a more detailed window, just like with the catalogs. Mostly this just repeats examine descriptions, but this helps tie the icons to their specific functions for people who aren’t familiar with them yet.
In the example picture things are a bit more cluttered than normal, as I purposefully didn’t resolve anything. Just like before, spending keys, clearing rooms, and finishing quests will cause landmark entries to be removed.
With all this space though, doesn’t it feel like there’s room for something more? I haven’t yet pinned down the UI design for this, but I’d really like to add custom note support to this journal tab as well! Custom notes will likely appear at the top of the UI and my goal for them is to make it easy for people to note down various things such as suspected item properties, floor-specific details, or general gameplay notes. I’ll hopefully have more to share on custom notes next week.

Yeah that isn't specifically what these landmarks are for, they're more about attaching details to floors, not specific locations. I do think that custom notes might be able to help here though (you could easily make a note that states where the imp is), and I also do want to eventually make it much more clear where the Imp is when I rework that quest. Also the blacksmith does disappear from landmarks when favor is 0, that's already in the game infact.

Add the bit that shattered is a game you play in bursts - waiting for the bus and so on - so you forget the first encounter. Well, maybe not you, but me, most of the time. ...I have wasted sooooo much time running around a level searching for the little sucker.... Plz also remove the smith once his favour is back down to zero. (Hmmm - both would also be covered by user notes if attachable to tiles). All minor and no blemish on a brilliant game.
