V2.0 Beta When? | Patreon Weekly #191

Hey Patrons, in this weekly I’m going to summarize what’s left to do for v2.0.0 to get to beta!

If you’re a golden+ patreon, make sure you’ve taken a look at the recently released alpha for v2.0! There have been a bunch of bugfixes since initial release, and we’re now on ALPHA-4 as of a few hours ago.

This weekly also has an audio Q&A in it! Go and give it a listen if you’d like. You can find audio timestamps at the end of this weekly.

Beta Soon!?

I released the alpha for v2.0.0 on Friday morning last week, and since then we’ve already gone though several updates containing 20+ bugfixes and some early balance tweaks. These fixes, as well as some balance changes before the alpha, actually ended up taking a lot more time than anticipated, but better to clear them out now than during the beta.

Now that the dust from that has finally settled, I want to get working on the last bits of content needed to get v2.0.0 to beta!

The major content left to add before beta is Elemental Strike. I don’t expect the beta to be content-complete, but I want to try to leave it at one missing subclass and one armor ability, rather than two. The design for elemental strike is quite solid at this point (as you saw last week), and so implementation on it should hopefully be quick.

I also really, really need to give the Duelist’s sprite some hair. I don’t think her visuals need to be final for the beta to release, but I know that if I release a bald version of the duelist I’ll never hear the end of it from people who’ll want me to leave it in as a toggle.

Lastly, I also need to write the blog post! I expect to start chipping away at that as I’m working on the content itself.

If all goes well I should have these things finished up early next week, and can get on with releasing the beta and the rest of the content for v2.0.0!

The alpha is incredible, and I can't wait to see what the beta looks like. If only there was a toggle so the duelist can be bald again in the future :)

The working towards unlocking "lore" about the various denizens of the dungeon (your example of slaying 1,000 rats) for bestiary unlocks sounds very enticing as something to work towards. Maybe even a tracker on their page for how many of them you have defeated as well as how many times they defeated you (sort of like Risk of Rain 2) would be very interesting. I feel that a system like this would help give older players, as well as the new ones, another reason to play instead of just wins/games played. I understand that a system like this is probably a more long-term goal, but it is some fun food for thought.
