Lore Progress | Patreon Weekly #172

Hey Patrons!

Firstly, there will be a new Shattered Secrets tomorrow! This time around I’m sharing various more specific design details I’ve thought up for the Duelist. Apologies for the delay, I know that the release schedule for Patreon content has been a bit rocky lately and I’m going to work on improving that.

Also, next week’s weekly will have an audio Q&A segment! Feel free to ask questions either here or on the Patreon discord.

In this weekly, I’m going to go over final progress on v1.4.0, and share a bit more upcoming lore!

Lore Documents

I’ve been spending most of the last week fixing up various minor issues and actually writing in the some-30 lore document pages that are going to be added in v1.4.0. This has been a bit slower of a process than I would like, but I’ve now got pretty much everything outlined and it’s just a matter of filling in all the details.

I worry that the lore pages might end up being a bit too simple in some cases though. They each document an event or person’s story, but I worry that they might not effectively show interesting details and convey a greater story about each region. This is the first time I’ve really done this though, so some uncertainly is to be expected. I can also always come back to these documents and make adjustments after the fact.

The most complete document set is currently in the sewers. These are a collection of letters written by a young and somewhat naïve guard to their parents. They span over a month or two and show this guard going from excitement at a new position as part of a sewer patrol to realizing they need to get out of the city. Here is one page from about halfway through this document, which also includes another character you probably already know:

Dear Mom and Dad,

As if the rats we're bad enough, deeper down there are giant crabs! It surprised me, charged right past, and got Lee pretty badly before we killed it. Thomas says it's not my fault, but I don't believe him.

Thankfully, we ran into an adventurer on our way back out who had some spare sungrass salve. Lee might not have made it without that stuff.

The adventurer continued on despite our warnings. I saw them staring at a rose before they left, they said it was a gift. Why would they risk their life down here if someone cares about them so much?

That's exactly what I'm doing though isn't it? I feel like I'm in over my head.

Comments

Question for the next QnA if possible, (or if it’s been answered where can I find this topic), how do you gauge win percent numbers for items and skills balance-wise, and more specifically, how do you determine the “right” win rate number goals to set. (I was also wondering, have win rates percentages changed significantly over time, and have there been any events that caused a long term increase in wins?)
