v1.2.0 Side Content | Patreon Poll #24

Hey Patrons!

v1.1.0 is now finally released, and so I’m starting to plan out what exactly will be in v1.2.0. As mentioned before, I want the update to be on the smaller side and focused on various miscellaneous content. The most important thing will probably be desktop-specific improvements, as they’re needed for the game’s Steam release.

However, there should be room for a little bit of new game content as well, so I’d like you guys to help me prioritize! I’ve got a few options here for what could become new content in v1.2.0. Some of these are quite general, so I might let you guys also pick the more specific details in a future poll, depending on what wins.

The option that gets the strongest support will be implemented in v1.2.0!

Please vote for all the options that you like, not just for your one favourite! I allow multiple votes as it means that a higher proportion of people will end up voting for the winning choice.

All patrons are encouraged to share their opinion by commenting and voting, but currently only the votes from Golden+ Supporters are counted when determining a poll winner. Votes from Shattered Supporters are worth double!

A New Item

Currently the game has room for one or two new items in almost any category, so v1.2.0 could easily feature a new item! I don’t have a specific best idea for a new item yet, but I think a new ring, artifact, or weapon is most likely. Just as one quick example, we don’t currently have a potion counterpart to the unstable spellbook. (the toolkit was actually planned to be a spellbook counterpart at one point, before alchemy as a system was fully concepted)

Levelgen Additions

I don’t think there’s room to add a whole new building algorithm like in v0.9.2, but there would certainly be room to add some smaller things relating to levelgen! In particular I’d like to add another unique room to each region and evaluate current level types, as I know some players find some of the new ones annoying. If nothing else it would be very handy to have some kind of persistent indicator for what type of floor you’re on.

New Badges

While I would like to do a big overhaul to badges at some point, there are lots of ways they could be improved incrementally as well. For now this would mostly mean new badges, ranging from easy to hard. In particular I’d like to add some badges that award specific accomplishments or niche strategies, such as clearing the sewers without using an upgrade scroll, winning a necromancer run, or beating Yog with all spawners alive.

Interface Shops

I do still plan to have an update dedicated to shops, but there’s no reason why some of the technical enhancements for shops couldn’t happen first. The plan here is to move shops away from having items spread across the floor, and instead contain them all in a list that exists in an interface, not the game world. This would be a more extensible system that I would expand on in the future with more shop types and would also let me add a buyback option!

Comments

I'm leaning more towards total times badges were acquired (I'm envisioning a x# next to them in the account badge screen). Though I suppose that's just run stats... idk.

The badge system is already tied to the player and each character. Any badge you earn as a character is also shared to your account, and there are a few badges that you can only earn on your account after multiple runs (e.g. ID all rings)

Late to this, but badges and interface shops would've been my top. The Shop idea is cool! Badges change sounds like a nice way to update the game without changing base gameplay. Ever thought of including a badge system that is tied to the account, instead of each character? Career achievements (or stats) could feel pretty rewarding.

It's looking like badges and interface shops aren't especitally low, just weak in comparison to new content, which makes some sense as updates have been pretty light on that lately. I'll be doing everything on this poll list eventually though, including new badges.

Surprised that badges is so low, I do like the idea of being given credit for really niche wins. That said, I'm a sucker for new items.
