Arcane Resin | Patreon Weekly #111

Hey Patrons!

I’ve continued work on v0.9.4, and things are starting to shape up nicely! We’re not quite at a point where I can commit to when the beta will come out, but toward the end of July is still looking good.

What’s Been Finished

Firstly, the iOS version of the game is now notably more stable as of the release I made last week! There are still some rare crashes to address (there always are), but I’m not planning any further releases before the 0.9.4 beta. the iOS TestFlight will get the beta at the same time as other platforms, and then it will be onward to full App Store release!

As for new content, I have implemented both of the winning traps from poll #19! Geyser and gateway traps will show up in various places throughout the dungeon. Both traps present some interesting new trap-based strategies, and geyser traps have a pretty neat animation too!

I’ve also implemented both of the new crafting recipes I mentioned! Liquid Metal and Arcane Resin can be crafted from thrown weapons and wands you don’t want, to empower the ones that you do want! A thrown weapon makes enough metal to fully repair another weapon of its tier, and a wand makes enough resin to upgrade two other wands of the same level.

Lastly, the new music I teased a while ago is ready too! For now it’s just replacements to the existing tracks, but we’ll likely be adding more region-specific tracks in the next update. Expect to hear more about this in a coming weekly.

What’s to Come

Firstly, in terms of content additions I’ve still got some work to do in unblessed ankhs, and a little polish to give to arcane resin. I want resin to be pretty useful, but there are edge cases (like farming with a ring of wealth) that I need to put in some sort of limiter for. I don’t want players running around with +50 wands!

After that, I’m going to be implementing balance changes, primarily to runestones, abilities, and T4 talents, but there’ll be some smaller adjustments to other talents and items too. I’ve already run some of the numbers on this and Its looking like the game is overall a bit harder right now, so there’s room to angle more towards buffs, especially when considering armor abilities.

Finally, I’m going to be properly evaluating the new player experience. In the interest of time I’m likely not going to make any big changes, but there are some targeted adjustments I’d like to make, such as re-ordering some of the guidebook and doing a better job of showing info when it’s needed. Ideally I’ll be getting started on this last change toward the end of this week.

I wonder what a +50 fireblast wand would do...

Good thing enemies can drop wands, and their drop rates are increased by wealth. +50 is obviously an exaggeration though.
