Patches & Privacy Policies | Patreon Weekly #107

Hey Patrons!

Firstly, the next Patreon Livestream will be this Saturday the 26th, at 8pm EDT! As usual, if you have any questions you’d like answered, please write them in a comment here, or on the Patreon Discord. Golden+ Patrons will be able to watch the stream live, and all patrons can access it after the next weekly.

I spent pretty much the whole of last week working on patches for v0.9.3, and on some technical kinks in the iOS port.

Quick-use and Patches

Firstly, for patches, most of you should have already had time to try this out in v0.9.3b, but in case you missed it, I’ve added a new quick-use interface!

It can be triggered either by having a quickslotted bag, or by long-pressing on the inventory.

This is the first major change I'm making to try and address quickslot demand without just adding a bunch more slots. So far its been received extremely well!

Aside from that UI, I’ve been doing the usual round of bugfixes each patch. I plan to release a final patch for v0.9.3 later today or tomorrow, and then I can get started on implementing changes for v0.9.4. That patch won’t include any ability balance changes, I’m going to wait until v0.9.4 before making any more tweaks there.

iOS Analytics

On the iOS front, I recently released another patch there with support for gesture-based UI and a proper launch screen. Those two were the last technical items I needed to get done before submitting the game to Apple!

Unfortunately, there are still some nagging crash issues with the iOS version, and nobody is sending me any crash report screenshots! I’ve also discovered that Apple requires a link to a privacy policy regardless of whether an App does any data collection. I had originally hoped to put off implementing analytics into the iOS version until after release, but because of these things I’ve decided to re-prioritize.

The first thing that was needed on this front was some edits to the game’s privacy policy. One thing led to another though, and I ended up rewriting the entire policy from scratch. This took forever, but It’s now much more informative, easier to read, and should be better suited to the game moving forward.

Now that the privacy policy is sorted, I hope to release a new testflight version with built-in crash reporting sometime later this week. Once that’s released I’ll be able to ensure that the iOS port is as rock solid as the Android version!

What's the best way to reach you about privacy? It's often through a privacy@ email address. I have some (hopefully helpful) comments about your policy, coming from a European perspective =)

Paul Stenne

In earlier drafts of the policy I had a bunch of different titles for various sections that were just a few sentences each. This is needed because policies are supposed to highlight important information about things such as what personal data is collected, or what rights the user has. Rather than having all these sections and headers, I opted to condense the policy and accomplish the information highlighting via bold and underline.

Shattered Pixel

Ha, the underline and bold statements.

Ah, the crash window was added in TestFlight-1.2, so if the crashes you were getting were from before that it wouldn't have shown a window.

Shattered Pixel

I don't remember such a window appearing nope =/ I could just start the game again and it would show the launcher normally. The symptoms of the crash were (at the time, a few weeks ago) a complete hang with sound playing in the background, then no more sound, then crash. I think that maybe I read that you fixed that one, though I can't really remember, sorry!

Paul Stenne

Hmm, the game should pop up a window with crash information the next time it's launched, that's what needs to be screenshotted. Is that window not appearing for you?

Shattered Pixel

I've encountered some crashes but was unable to screenshot them! I'll try and make sure to get it next time
