[Video] #15 // Devlog - A Book By Its Cover

Ohaiyo!

Just like in the last project update, I've been busy getting the Intro Flow in. Even though most players will only really spent a few minutes at the beginning of the game, I wanted to spend a bit of effort making it a bit more presentable (you know, judging a book by its cover and all).

I wasn't really satisfied with the last design I had. So I made changes!

As you can see, I opted for a more soft and dramatic approach compared to the flat and graphic style I was going for in the previous design. It was originally supposed to mirror the style we used in the BETA menu (pictured below).

This design change might make more sense with the pivot in story. I'm not sure if I've mentioned it yet, but I'm planning to make the game more in line with the Death of Flash in 2020. I just feel like this is a great opportunity to celebrate our dying childhoods (since this is of course, a game about Flash characters).

Pico Sim Date <3 : Final Climax will be about the end. (and also boobs <3)

So I'm hoping this dramatic style fits it more! I've even commissioned a sad version of The Final Countdown so I'll share that with you guys when I start hearing back from the artist :D

But anyways!

The video posted above is a cut time-lapse of the work I've been working on for the last couple days. I wanted to add more life to the main menu, so you can see how I tried to add ambiance and motion to a still image.

To achieve the effect, I used a combination of particle effects, additive lens-flares and water shader refraction to give it that subtle flowing motion.

From here, I need to make the buttons and have the girls cycle and animate in. I'll most likely post up a time-lapse of the whole Intro Flow process with all that stuff included later on.
