Aliens (1986) * FULL LENGTH REACTION

Game over man, game over!!

Another James Cameron sequel that is just as good as the first movie of the franchise!

I'm always worried about people going back to places where we KNOW the aliens/baddies exist. It's like in Jurassic Park, since the dinosaurs are focused on a couple of islands, why are the characters from the first movie going back there? We need some kind of compelling reason 🤣

I'm planning on continuing this franchise, so keep an eye out for those reactions! (and of course, please don't give any spoilers for the rest of the movies in the franchise 🙂 )

For this style of reaction, you need your own copy to watch the movie.  You can set picture in picture by right clicking twice on the video and selecting "Picture in picture". The right clicking twice is a bit tricky, because you have to right click, then move your cursor so it's not on the menu, then right click again

Thank you so much everyone for your support, you are amazing!!

I couldn't do this without you <3

Aliens (1986) * FULL LENGTH REACTION

I agree they all have flaws. I would love to have seen the Gibson one come to fruition. I think it would have been better than the 2nd just in strength of Gibson’s writing ability. I get the primary complaint of A3 if you are a fan of Cameron's. For me that type of narrative arc is not Alien.

TeatroGrottesco

My opinion of Alien 3 is that it is a good movie but it has some flaws. I won’t say my biggest one because it is a plot point in the beginning of the movie, and it has always bothered me how they treated them. Having read a few of the earlier screenplays like the one by William Gibson is a favorite with good possibilities for a decent movie.

I am in the cheap seats here, or maybe the Statler & Waldorf ones. 😂 I don't like Cameron as a filmmaker. He is good at advancing the tech part, which I will give him, but his movies are not good. He cannot write. Terminator worked because he did not write it, but his technical abilities worked out for it. I cannot think of a film of his that makes it past the tolerable-to-watch mark and I refuse to watch Titanic (for reasons). For me, A3 continues the horror story aspect of the first. This is what made Alien incredible: regular people and an indifferent universe. I adore the first one for its approach to cosmicism. Also, it's David Fincher; as much as they screwed him over on the production, he turned out an incredible film despite it. The set dec is on par with the first. The sets they built are gorgeous. Watch the making of for an incredible timelapse at Pinewoods. One of the most ICONIC images from the franchise is from A3. The xenomorph design, especially the assembly cut, is a great exploration of how it adapts to the host's genetics and remains the perfect organism. Also, there is a 4 K restoration and effects fix version in the works that looks phenomenal.

If you want to blame anyone for Willie Scott, then blame Steven Spielberg and George Lucas because they co- wrote and directed her. Kennedy is the head of Lucasfilm, which means her only job is to line up the funding for the projects and it is the Story Group that makes ALL creative decisions.

MrDannySteele

Definitely the Assembly cut yeah! I'm always very curious to see why a movie is divisive

This is one of my favorite franchises. Cameron was on a hiatus filming Terminator , he was waiting for Arnold to finish Conan, when he wrote this movie. Cameron had difficulty with the British crew not really respecting him until he had a special showing of the Terminator, which had yet to be released in the UK. Actually Alien 3 has no directors cut, David Fincher has disowned it because of all the meddling of the studio executives made it extremely unpleasant experience for everyone involved. It has an Assembly Cut, not a Directors Cut. Paul Reiser’s own mother cheered when Burke got what he deserves. Carrie Henn (Newt) has retired from acting and is still friends with Sigourney Weaver. Sigourney Weaver is an advocate for gun control and did not want to fire a gun , Cameron used this as part of Ripley’s character. However she did think it was “pretty cool” to shoot automatic weapons at a firing range. Ripley’s daughter Amanda is featured in the Alien Isolation game which takes place prior to this movie. The downfall of Hadley’s Hope colony is depicted in the book Alien: River of Pain and is a great and very suspenseful read.

MrDannySteele

James Cameron helped with the editing for "Hot Fuzz" (which you already watched). The scene at the end where the swan attacks the police chief out of the back seat of the police car was purposefully done to copy the way way the xenomorph attacked Ferro in the the dropship.

JAKH

It seems like James Cameron used a lot of the same actors in both franchises! That's pretty awesome :D

Verowak

I would strongly disagree with you saying that Kathleen Kennedy is responsible for Willie in Temple of Doom. If you say that, then you should also praise Kathleen Kennedy for giving us Back to the Future, E.T, Jurassic Park, Twister and many more amazing movies. She was associate producer on Temple of Doom, which means she's not making many creative decisions, if any.

Verowak

Good. Best part of being through this one is we get to move on to Alien 3 (Assembly Cut).

TeatroGrottesco

If you go to conventions, she seems to be at a lot of them. She's a teacher now. 🍎

AuntVes

I don't know if you noticed, but whenever a woman drives a vehicle in an emergency situation in one of James Cameron's movies, she crashes it. :)

JAKH

Since you liked the strong characters Ripley and Vasquez, I will point out that this is another one of Gale Anne Hurd's projects. I think her movies have some of the best women characters. On the subject of strong characters (or the opposite), there is a rumor going around that Kathleen Kennedy may be leaving Disney. She is the one responsible for your least favorite screaming damsel from "Temple of Doom" and for "Acolyte".

JAKH

- Music by James Horner ("Alien" was Jerry Goldsmith). - The actress playing Vasquez was also the foster mother in "Terminator 2". - The actor playing Bishop the android was one of the detectives in "The Terminator". - Michael Biehn was also in James Cameron's "The Abyss", which you already watched. - Since you have already watched T1, T2, "The Abyss", and "True Lies", next up for your James Cameron journey should be "Strange Days" (1995), written by Cameron and directed by his 1st ex-wife Katheryn Bigalow. You already saw one of her movies "K-19 The Widowmaker".

JAKH

I actually would like to see all the related films 😊 Of course I don't want to say anything... not even a clue that might spoil 🙃

Mannygogou

I personally think theatrical cut should be watched first unless the special edition changes the movie a LOT (like how it seems Alien 3 is so different when you watch the theatrical vs. Assembly cut). It seems like James Cameron really knows how to make an amazing sequel though, from this AND Terminator! 🤩

Verowak

Newt was so fantastic!! The characters were so well done, and they are all so different. It makes for a fantastic ensemble 🤩

Verowak

Hahaha I still automatically see Benjamin Linus when I see Michael Emerson, or I see Michael Dawson when I see Harold Perrineau. I automatically feel what I felt for them in Lost with their new character. I think it just goes to show how great of a job the actor did! It means so much that my reaction helped you experience "Aliens" like that!! 🥰🤩

Verowak

Very good guess! 🤣

Verowak

Yes! What Miles said 👆🏻

Finally! My favorite Alien film! And the last Alien film in my head. It’s all downhill from here in my view. I was much more emotionally invested in these characters and what I loved most about this one was the dynamic of “mother vs mother” and seeing both Ripley’s and the queens maternal rage being played out against each other. With that being said I think the theatrical version should be outlawed! This is my first time seeing it and I can’t believe the things they cut! One of them I feel is extremely important to story, which if you don’t want to know don’t read any further She lost her daughter due to the major timelapse in hyper sleep and thus why Newt, who was the same age as Ripleys daughter in the first alien, evoked such strong maternal instincts in her.

Bruce Wesley

Thanks and I'm so glad you appreciated this one, Vero! 👾 I think it's my favorite of all from this franchise. Carrie Henn's performance of 'Newt' has plenty to do with that.

AuntVes

Thank you so much for your fantastic reactions! It really helped me experience "Aliens" close to when I saw it for the first time. After watching "Aliens" in the theater and loving it, and I was SO ready for a sequel, actor Paul Reiser starred in a long-running sitcom in 1992 called "Mad About You", opposite the very likable Helen Hunt ("Cast Away"). I had a *really* hard time giving his character on the comedy show the benefit of the doubt. I usually don't have that problem separating acting roles from their real personas but, WOW. It was many seasons later before I could watch Paul Reiser in their hit show.

ButtercupsTrueLove

I'm going to guess that the cat's name is Jonesy 🙂

I'll definitely be checking out the special edition, though it may just be on my own time. Either that or I try one of those live watchalongs that some reactors do, and but I won't edit it down. Alien 3 will be Assembly cut for that reason. I hear that it's basically a completely different movie (similar to Kingdom of Heaven if I ever get to that one). Bill Paxton has had some fantastic roles! I love how he just breaks immediately while everyone else keeps their cool. It's neat to see a completely different character!! That must have been so fun hearing the clips when you were at your PC 🤣 It took a few scenes for me to confirm that it was 57 years later, since I didn't know what was part of the dream and what wasn't, or what was true even haha. Characters with flaws are always more interesting, and it's something that you want the characters to have (unless it's specifically a movie where one person is basically invincible and just kicks butt all the time) :D

Verowak

Tooth extractions are no fun, hopefully you heal up quickly. My general rule is that if I really enjoy a movie in a franchise, then I'll check out the next one in line. If I'm lukewarm on a movie in a franchise, I will probably stop the franchise 😅

Verowak

I’ve seen this movie so many times, but really enjoyed your reaction to it. Between the two versions I always choose to watch the special edition as I really like nearly all the additions. Having said that, the theatrical version is still a fantastic watch, and, for me, the differences do fall into your description at the start - just extending or building on scenes and atmosphere. Ripley talking about (…) at the start definitely does add another layer to her character but I don’t think it’s essential. I do, however, agree with others regarding Alien 3. I remember feeling completely different about the movie after watching the assembly cut compared to the theatrical version - things just made a lot more sense. Bill Paxton must have had the best read through, his percentage of awesome dialogue is probably my favourite of any movie. “Why don’t you put her in charge?” is just pure gold. I had a bunch of audio clips of his for Windows events in an Aliens theme I created for Windows 98 back in the day. You didn’t comment on it but I just love the transition at the start from Ripley’s face to the planet (Earth I presume). I’m glad you got the 57 years wasn’t just part of her dream - it’s clearer in the special edition. The one thing I think I like better about the theatrical version is the slow reveal of the colony base, that it’s all being seen for the first time by the audience as well as the squad. The special edition has a before catastrophe scene. I really like the characters being so strong but not perfect, something I do feel Hollywood gets wrong now. They can still be vulnerable - both Hicks and Ripley needed saving at one point.

James Hadden

Looking forward to watching this later on today. But I'm of the mind that you should stop with this one. In my opinion they just go down, down, down from here on in. Plus, I think you'll just be pissed off with the next one. Please excuse my bluntness. I just had a tooth extracted and not in too good a mood.

Miles E Coburn

Perfect way to rewatch a movie!! 🥰 Movies reactions mostly come out at night, mostly (in some parts of the world) 🤣

Verowak

Its been a minute since I've watched this film! Ill have to do a watchalong when I get home
