Good Will Hunting (1997) * FULL LENGTH REACTION

Robin Williams is so perfect.  Every single scene that he is in, he has my heart and my full attention.

Easily one of my new favourite movies, and though I'm not a huge fan of Ben Affleck, he did have such a great scene.

I just have no words to express how much I enjoyed this movie, especially Robin Williams.  Comedians in a serious role is one of my favourite things to watch.

For this style of reaction, you need your own copy to watch the movie.  Also know there is an extension that allows you to do Picture-in-Picture in case you are interested: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/picture-in-picture-extens/hkgfoiooedgoejojocmhlaklaeopbecg?hl=en

Good Will Hunting (1997) * FULL LENGTH REACTION

Comments

Some movies are just so real, and Robin Williams is just that in this one 😭

Wow I don’t think I’ve ever seen you this emotional and raw. Thank you for being so honest and vulnerable. This movie does know how to pull the heart strings, and I agree that seeing Robin Williams with sad eyes hurts.

There's definitely different kinds of movies, sometimes I prefer visual storytelling, other times not. This one fits in the "not" category :D It's always interesting to try to imagine what a movie would be like if a different director was attached to it. The only times we get that is with remakes I suppose

Had never gotten around to seeing this one, so your reaction pushed me to finally watch it. I don’t know that I loved it quite as much as you, but I thought it was great, with a very tight and well written script. It is very much a screenplay-centric film, which is not a bad thing by any means, but at times I did find myself wishing for slightly more of a reliance on visual storytelling. However the strong performances were enough to make up for that, for the most part. I’m very curious about what a Michael Mann version of the film would’ve looked like, but he’s very much an auteur so his vision would have taken over the film from Damon and Affleck. Ultimately I’m glad they got to keep their vision for it intact.

Oh man, One Hour Photo would be a… very different experience for Vero, let’s put it that way.

Razor Bikini

Oh well that clears things up, thanks! Then they are both films that I want to watch at some point, it seems like there are a lot of John Woo films that I will be watching lol

Verowak

Ben Affleck is in the movie "Paycheck" (2003). It's a John Woo sci-fi directed film with over the top action. And he is also in "The Accountant" (2016), a more subtle action film. Both good films, but I doubt either would ever win in a poll

DarthChef

Yes, exactly this. Really sad and horrible that he was going through that

According to his wife, Robin Williams didn't end his life because of depression. He had Lewy body dementia. https://www.marca.com/en/lifestyle/celebrities/2023/08/16/64dd10cce2704ea1b58b456f.html

I believe Robin Williams was a far better dramatic actor than comedian. He was a brilliantly funny man, but many comedians learn comedy as a coping mechanism for pain. When he channeled his pain into his drama - the results were astounding. Dead Poets Society, The Fisher King, Good Morning, Vietnam, Patch Adams, The Birdcage, One Hour Photo, What Dreams May Come... Some comedic, some not, but all brilliant.

John

Hearing does not = Listing. Sorry for the rant.

Daniel Looney

Of course, they do not say that! But we have 100+ years of experience that if someone says xyz then do abc. Yet no one freakin does it! I am changing medicine atm so a bit unhinged so to speak but F discord I am done I will never be back. There are angels among us though. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y_4Xfj2LRSA

Daniel Looney

I always get confused between Argo and Fargo lol I'll have to check out their Super Bowl commercial lol

Verowak

That was great to see!! And a bonus Billy Crystal in there too! Now I need to watch the other movies he was nominated for :D

Verowak

Every single thing Robin Williams did in this movie was perfect. I will 100% be watching his scenes again in the near future

Verowak

It's good to cry at movies!! 😊

John

There are different facets to Ben Affleck. He's never been a big draw to the box office receipts by starring in a film but he co-wrote "Good Will Hunting" with his childhood friend, as well as directed the Academy Award-winning film for Best Picture, "Argo" (2012). Also, just for yuks, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon have worked together recently in a Super Bowl commercial. Enjoy ;p

Sometimes it isn't about not listening. A person on the verge of suicide doesn't always come out and say, "I'm going to take my own life." We aren't all trained how to recognize the signs of deep depression that can lead to suicide.

ButtercupsTrueLove

Oh Captain, My Captain!

John

Robin Williams was such a gift to us all. He died by suicide in 2014. Mainly because no would actually listen to him. We are all poorer because he is gone. You never know about someone. Yet, almost no one ever listens until it is too late.

Daniel Looney

Robin Williams' monologue on the park bench has got be one of the finest scenes ever filmed! The only thing missing is a literal mike drop after "Your move, chief..."

Phil Stubblefield

I just got something in my eye! Well, both eyes... 😭

Phil Stubblefield

I love this movie. Yes .. yes, it does make me cry .. what of it?? :)
