Terminator 2: Judgement Day (1991) | FULL LENGTH REACTION

It's here!!!

I watched the theatrical release, which I think should always be the first one seen, though I think it's a remastered version.  I wish streaming services would state what version of the movie they have available, but I always assume it's the latest one (when there is a remastered version).

T2 is such an amazing and fun movie!!!  Arnold was fantastic in it, and the T-1000?!  He was superb!  I think the biggest "issues" with this movie, is that I could spot the stunt guy in a few of the shots, instead of Arnold 😂

I love it when I watch a movie that is well done and a joy to see.

Reminder that you need your own copy of the movie to watchalong, and that there is an extension that allows you to do Picture-in-Picture in case you are interested: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/picture-in-picture-extens/hkgfoiooedgoejojocmhlaklaeopbecg?hl=en

There are so many good movies that I still have to watch 😍

Terminator 2: Judgement Day (1991) | FULL LENGTH REACTION

Comments

I think overall, the second one is more well rounded. I'm just really amazed at what Cameron managed to do for the first one with that kind of budget!

Verowak

Between the two which do you think is the superior film? They’re both masterpieces in my view. What I love is that Cameron didn’t try the same thing again - T1 Arnold was a scary brute who just plowed through any opposition, whereas the T-1,000 is scary in the opposite way. He’s creepy and uses smarts and trickery to get at you. I do think the second movie is slightly better because of the themes regarding the value of human life. It is deeper to me in that way and I love the fact that Miles Dyson, the inventor of Skynet was actually a good man trying to do good which adds another dimension to the story and raises questions of intent and culpability. I always felt so bad for him in this.

Bruce Wesley

It's one of the franchises that I want to continue/finish this year :D

Verowak

Hope you watch the rest of the Terminator movies. Such a great story. Terminator 3 has some all time great action scenes.

Horoldo

I accidentally watched the extended edition of Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves on first watch, but I blame my library for not labelling things properly, and me for not even knowing that there was an extended edition 😂

Verowak

Theatrical release isn't ALWAYS the way to watch it first, but I agree it's best for this movie. There's only one scene from the extended version I wish was kept in, and that's the explanation of and removal of his chip. Makes more sense that his learning would have to be turned on rather than sent out there to infiltrate without potentially gaining a conscience, as even Sarah understands

John A

Her physical transformation itself is amazing! She really showed just how much Sarah has changed since the first movie

Verowak

The alternate ending, while cool to see, can't really be considered Canon. I agree the version with the additional scenes but the original ending is the best. It should be the version on streaming, but this is the version I used to watch on VHS all the time.

Mike

Also shout out for saying Amy Pond and not Nebula! That whole arc with her & Rory was AMAZING TV and is IMO the best of Dr Who

Mike

This is a great movie!

Mike

Linda Hamilton's performance is like top 3.

hands: The helicopter controls are: 1) right hand on joystick between pilot's legs 2) left hand is on throttle which is a lever-style control next to the pilot's left thigh/hip In general, a helicopter requires all 4 of the pilot's limbs to fly: 2 foot pedals, and 2 hands on stick and throttle.

JAKH

I love how there were two sets of twins used for this movie, it definitely helps to make things more realistic :D I'll have to watch the first scenes with the T-1000 and pay attention to the music, it's definitely not something I would ever notice on my own. It seems I missed a hand when he was flying the helicopter, but the scenes with 4 hands are few. I love knowing all these little facts!! Knowing these and rewatching the movie makes things more interesting imo Thank you for all these facts, some of them I hadn't seen via IMDB trivia 😁

Verowak

The extended version is 15-16 minutes longer (total ~156min), so the run time should be an indicator which version it is.

JAKH

Oh that's super interesting, the trilogy is broken up by a random trilogy in the middle 😂 It's good to know though, since I like watching movies in order of release for the most part, that just means I'll be forced to rewatch Terminator 1 & 2 before watching Dark Fate 😇

Verowak

I will say, I haven't heard of 90% of those. I've added them all to a Thriller/suspense list though, so I can get some for future polls, thank you so much! It helps that a lot of them have actors that I've heard of, so it will be more interesting for me to see them in different roles

Verowak

I feel like that's the general idea that I've heard... that the alternate ending is not good. I'll need to look for the "ultimate edition" then, though I don't think it's available on any streaming services, sadly.

Verowak

Going several times to the theatre in order to watch a movie was a great indication of how loved it was!! I will keep my noticing the multiple arms for the yt edit then!! I like how they have that, and it makes sense since he's so malleable and can transform into anything, so an extra limb is perfect!

Verowak

I sort of expect a lot of horror movies to have jump scares, but it's the other elements that make them stand out. I didn't read your last sentence because I do want to watch various horror movies, and this one seems like it could be really interesting!!

Verowak

One of my favorite "modern" horror movies is Oculus from 2013. It stars the excellent Karen Gillan (Amy Pond from Doctor Who S5-7, Nebula from Guardians of the Galaxy, etc.). It is directed by Mike Flanagan (The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manner, Midnight Mass, etc.). While it does contain a few jump scares, most of the "horror" elements are used uniquely, and it doesn't rely on those jump scares; it is much more chilling in the slow camera pans, zooms, and long shots. Stop reading if you want to go into it completely blind. Otherwise, here is a one-sentence plot description: A woman tries to exonerate her brother, who was convicted of murder, by proving that a supernatural phenomenon committed the crime.

When this came out, 6 of us went to go see it. None of us could sit together, we were spread out because it was so full. We went again early the next week. YOU are the first reactor to spot his multiple arms while flying/reloading! You need to put that reaction into the YT cut. Great reaction, Verowak!

Recommendations for Suspense/Thrillers with plot and minimal jump scares (ranked best first): "Copycat" (1995) Sigourney Weaver "Kiss The Girls" (1997) Morgan Freeman, Ashley Judd "Along Came a Spider" (2001) Morgan Freeman. Sequel to "Kiss The Girls" "Eye of the Beholder" (1999) Ashley Judd, Ewan McGregor "The Ghost and The Darkness" (1996) Val Kilmer, Michael Douglas. based on real events at Tsavo, Kenya in 1898 "The Edge" (1997) Anthony Hopkins, Alec Baldwin "Absolute Power" (1997) Clint Eastwood, Gene Hackman, Ed Harris, Scott Glenn, Dennis Haysbert "Backdraft" (1991) Kurt Russell, Daniel Baldwin, Robert DeNiro, Scott Glenn, Donald Sutherland. Directed by Ron Howard. No CGI, all practical effects. "Cleaner" (2007) Samuel L. Jackson, Ed Harris "Blood Work" (2002) Starring and directed by Clint Eastwood "Manhunter" (1986) based on the book "Red Dragon", much better than the 2002 remake "Tightrope" (1984) Starring and directed by Clint Eastwood "A Perfect Murder" (1998) Michael Douglas, Gwenyth Paltrow, Viggo Mortensen. Remake of Alfred Hitchcock's "Dial M for Murder" "Fatal Attraction" (1987) w/ Michael Douglas & Glenn Close "Basic Instinct (1989) w/ Michael Douglas & Sharon Stone "Sea Of Love" (1989) w/ Al Pacino

JAKH

There are 2 extended versions: The extended "Ultimate Edition" which has additional restored scenes, and the "Skynet Edition" which has more restored scenes and an alternate ending. I recommend the "ultimate Edition" with restored scenes but the original ending. I really dislike the alternate ending.

JAKH

No Spoilers: The next 3 movies, T3, T4, & T5 were made by the studio without James Cameron. Cameron came back to write and produce (but not direct) "Terminator Dark Fate". "Dark Fate" completely ignores the events of T3, T4, & T5 (they never happened in Cameron's version of events), and instead picks up right after the end of T2, forming a trilogy with the first 2 movies. You can skip T3, T4, & T5 and go straight to watch "Dark Fate" to complete the "James Cameron Terminator trilogy". You can go back later to watch T3, T4, & T5 if you want.

JAKH

So much to unpack for you: 1) One of the reasons that you distrusted the T-1000 from the beginning is that whenever they showed him naked or as a police officer, there was low, ominous base tones thrumming in the audio, really noticeable if you watch with speakers instead of headphones. Even better with THX surround sound. 2) Jason Patrick practiced shooting without blinking and running without breathing to make the T-1000 seem more robotic. 3) Jason Patrick ran track in college. When he was running after John on the dirt bike in the mall garage and running after the police car in the hospital garage, they had to film a lot of retakes because he kept catching up to them, even running without breathing. 4) The scene in the hospital with the guard at the vending machine is particularly seamless because the guard and the T-1000 "guard" are played by twin brothers, not traditional Hollywood composited image camera work of the same actor playing both parts or CGI (no facial replacement tech yet). 5) In Sarah's nuclear war nightmare, the waitress Sarah with the children on the playground is played by Linda Hamilton's twin sister. 6) In the foundry, the two Sarah's are Linda Hamilton and her sister. 7) No CGI in the helicopter chase wide shots: they really flew a helicopter under a highway overpass and dodged over the footbridge. 8) In the close shots when the T-1000 was flying the helicopter, he has 4 hands: 2 to fly the helicopter (right stick and left throttle), 1 to shoot the MP-5 sub-machinegun, and a 4th to change magazines and operate the charging handle on the MP5. 9) This was the first use of morphing CGI on a human character in a movie, and the most extensive use of CGI in a movie at the time. The previous leader had been James Cameron's previous 1989 "The Abyss" 10) This was the first movie with a budget over US$100 million.

Night guard Lewis and the T-1000 copy were also identical twins (Don and Dan Stanton).

Thank you for another wonderful reaction. Actress Jenette Goldstein has roles in several of James Cameron's films - she's like a chameleon. I won't name the films because you may not have watched them yet. The T-1000 Sarah in the foundry scene was not done in editing by combining Linda Hamilton's performances but was played by Linda's identical twin, Leslie. Leslie passed away recently and I felt bad for Linda because many identical twins have a very close bond.

ButtercupsTrueLove

Really enjoyed your reaction!
