Movie Recommendations!!

Hey friends!!

I do have a lot of movies planned, but I also am wondering what movies you would like to see me react to!  There is no guarantee that I'll watch all of them, but they serve as a good list to refer to when I'm trying to plan out my reactions for the upcoming months.

That being said, I would love to know what your 3 movie recommendations are for me to react to (please include the year, since there are remakes and reboots with the same movie names).

Have a great day everyone!!

- Vero 😊

"The Long Kiss Goodnight" is another action movie set during the Dec. holidays, w/ Geena Davis & Samuel L. Jackson.

JAKH

Lethal Weapon is one that I want to see in December ever since I watched Die Hard and found out it's another Christmas movie :D I love how most of the movies you recommend are completely new to me :D

Verowak

These all seem neat and different. A movie focused on the Aussies is not something that is often done! And seeing Obi-Wan could be neat. The Great Escape is something I've heard of very often, and for some reason always thought it had to do with Houdini for some reason 🤔Thank you again for the suggestions!! They've been added

Verowak

I've never heard of any of those, thank you! A movie with Bruce Willis and Meryl Streep... that is not a combo I had ever seen happening!

Verowak

Specifically for December: "Tora! Tora! Tora!" (1970) historical events: 7 Dec 1941 "Lethal Weapon" (1987) "The Long Kiss Goodnight" (1996)

JAKH

Specifically for November (Armistice Day; 11 Nov): WW1: "The Lighthorsemen" (1987) based on real events and real people, The Aussie Light Horse Regiment at Beer Sheeba in 1918. "Lawrence of Arabia" (1962) based on the life of British officer T. E. Lawrence, Co-starring Sir Alec Guiness (the original Obi-Wan Kenobi). WW2: "The Great Escape" (1963) based on real events, all-star ensemble cast. Often referenced in lots of other movies, even animated ones.

JAKH

Specifically for October: Supernatural Comedy: "Death Becomes Her" (1992) Bruce Willis, Meryl Streep, Goldie Hawn, Catherine Bell Sci-Fi Horror: "Species" (1995) with an all-star ensemble cast Suspense/Thriller: "Kiss The Girls" (1997) Morgan Freeman, Ashley Judd, bases on a book series by James Patterson

JAKH

Oliver Stone did a set of 3 movies about Vietnam, concentrating on 3 different aspects of the Vietnam experience. "Born on the Fourth of July" is the 2nd of the 3. The 1st is "Platoon" (1986). At the time considered the most realistic movie about the Vietnam War, displaced only by the true story movie "We Were Soldiers" (2002)

JAKH

I'm thinking of a replacement for Fury Road... should I pick a really good one but challenging and thought provoking? Or one just as challenging but more on the fun side. Or one just as fun but provoking and maybe too challenging? Okay, I'll replace #3 on the list above.

Mannygogou

A time to kill is the movie , I believe , that started Matthew McConaghey, with Samuel L. Jackson, Sandra Bullock, Kevin Spacey, Keifer Sutherland, just to name a few. You will need kleenex, though, fair warning :)

Toukie

The Thing from Another World has really intrigued me, there aren't many movies based in the Antarctic! I've seen Mad Max Fury Road, and it was so epic!!!

Verowak

I know a young Henry Cavill is in Count of Monte Cristo!!! 😍 I've never heard of A Time to Kill before though, but the title makes me intrigued lol

Verowak

Count of Monte Cristo (2002) Airplaine! (1980) A time to kill (1996)

Toukie

I made a nice long list but... if I were to win the lottery I'd like for you to watch these three, 1) Hero (2002) - Chinese language, Wuxia style action which is like floaty fantasy 2) The Thing from Another World (1951) - fun black & white old-time sci-fi. A favorite at the Antarctic research station. 3) Sucker Punch (2011) - a bit like Fury Road in that this is Action but goes quite a bit further. It can be considered challenging. x) Mad Max Fury Road (2015) - always a must-see, try to watch on a big screen 🙂 I don't remember if you've seen this, if you have I can substitute another.

Mannygogou

Heartfelt story will be nice to watch after Hachi: A Dog's Tale 😂

Verowak

Ah yes, the squirrel is essentially the mascot of Ice Age, you will definitely like him, but it's a really good heartfelt story.

Michlale

I've heard people mention Gattaca before, but have learned nothing about the movie. Your description makes it sound interesting though!! Fearless also sounds pretty interesting! Born on the fourth of July, I feel like that could be a movie for the 4th of July (though I think there are a few movies that could be done for that day). A John Williams score? Well... it;'s hard to say no to that 😂

Verowak

Well there are 4 sequel/prequel/timey-wimey Apes movies made during the early 1970s following the success of the OG Planet of the Apes, which are of varying quality, and more for film enthusiasts rather than modern reaction channels. There was also a 2001 remake of the Planet of the Apes done by Tim Burton which was an admirable attempt but ultimately flawed movie. But the 2010s trilogy is probably one of the best and most underrated/under appreciated trilogies of that decade. All “Apes” movies can be found on Disney+.

Laxjedi

Yup. That scene towards the end with Hawke and Uma Thurman. I won't quote it here because of spoilers, but I love the line he says to her concerning "flaws."

WastedPo

I've watched "Gattaca" many times after its release on disc and never tire of it. I won't spoil the message it tries to impart but it's inspirational.

ButtercupsTrueLove

It's going to be hard to limit this to 3. I guess I'll request titles that tend not to get reactions. GATTACA (1997/sci-fi): Kind of a cross between film-noir and sci-fi. Ethan Hawk stars. The music in this is haunting (reminiscence of the way music is used in "Arrival") and it almost makes it feel like a fable. FEARLESS (1993/drama): This is not the 2006 action movie with Jet Li. This was directed by Peter Weir and stars Jeff Bridges as a man who is psychologically changed after surviving a plane crash. Yes, there is a lot of talking, but I think it's ultimately a rewarding watch. (And I'm quite sure no reactor has done this.) BORN ON THE FOURTH OF JULY (1989/drama/war): I've mentioned this before. Stars Tom Cruise, directed by Oliver Stone, based on a real person, and was nominated for a lot of awards. Curiously, very few have reacted to this, maybe because it's not exactly a "rah-rah" type of movie. I wouldn't say it's a rollicking good time, but there are a lot of great elements, including John Williams's beautiful score and Cruise's performance.

WastedPo

Ah, perfect timing then it seems!

Verowak

It's scary, isn't it?! Basically August already 😨

Verowak

Haven't heard of Miller's Crossing, but the other 3 yes! If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball! I like knowing random lines from movies I haven't seen before 🤣

Verowak

I do like trilogies/franchises!! So the OG can be before or after, interesting. I would probably watch it first since it's a standalone!

Verowak

Yes, Amadeus is about Mozart.

Lasha

Yup! They're both animated. Across The Spiderverse is currently in Theaters but the physical release should come out in a few months.

Brandon Dodge

Miller's Crossing (1990) Dodgeball (2004) Big Hero 6 (2014) Bonus - Princess Bride (1987)

DarthChef

I’ve been submitting some recommendations/requests to your Google form, but I’ll add some here as well: -Field of Dreams (1989) -the 2010s Planet of the Apes Trilogy (1. Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011), 2. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014), 3. War for the Planet of the Apes (2017) ); I know this is cheating your “recommendation poll” as these alone are 3 movies, but it’s also one big story. -Planet of the Apes (1968); this is the OG, and you could watch it before or after the modern ones So many others I can think of so I’ll just keep submitting to your Google form.

Laxjedi

I think you just gave me a mini heart attack with the words "October is just around the corner."

Bucky1138

I am purposely not looking up anything about the movies that are recommended :D

Verowak

I haven't!! I actually haven't seen any King Arthur movies, and Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves was the first Robin Hood movie I watched. I feel like there's a LOT of movies in that universe that I could watch

Verowak

All of which I haven't seen!! October is just around the corner, so maybe Insidious could be a good time to watch it!

Verowak

Have you seen Excalibur (1981)? The best King Arthur movie imo with a great cast as well

John Danziger

I haven't! It's a trilogy I would like to watch (once I finish all the series I'm currently in the middle of, like Jurassic Park and Mission Impossible)

Verowak

I so wish I hadn't seen Lord of the Rings yet. Those movies are just phenomenal, though it's been quite a while since I've seen them. Fun fact, I was an extra in X-Men: Days of Future Past!! I've never seen the movie though. I feel like I may have seen one of the X-men movies, not sure though. Green Mile is upcoming, and sadly I've also seen Shawshank Redemption :(

Verowak

I assume that streaming services have mostly theatrical cuts that are available. I could be wrong, but I've never seen more than 1 version offered. For Apocalypse Now, I've been told that there are a series of movies that are set during the Vietnam War, and I think it could be neat going in chronological order. I have the list of movies, and Apocalypse now is the last one on the list of 5 movies. The other two I know nothing of, but am interested!

Verowak

I saw the first Batman movie when it came out, I think. And the second one... well we all know about "Why so serious?!" and I think a few more memes from heath Ledger's Joker. Was debating doing a "watch all batman movies" type of thing at some point (even the George Clooney one) :D

Verowak

I've never heard of Centurion or The Eagle. Plan will be to go in blind 😁 King Arthur is the one with Keira Knightley as some kind of archer, if I remember the poster correctly verowaLUL

Verowak

Leslie Nielsen theme plus Tom Hanks!! I watched Airplane when I was much younger and probably didn't understand half of what was going on in that movie. Debating rewatching it now that I'm an adult and will hopefully pick up more jokes

Verowak

Sadly, I've seen Shawshank Redemption. I would love to see it for the channel for the first time, but it's such an amazing movie!! Other two seem to be great choices too

Verowak

It seems Paul will have to be watched after I finish the Cornetto trilogy since it has those two in it!! The Island is a must, since I need more Obi-Wan. Been thinking of also watching Moulin Rouge for that lol I've heard of Kick-ass, also didn't know it had a sequel. Noted!

Verowak

Haven't seen any of those, yet! Also have no idea what the last two are about, so even better :D

Verowak

Wall-E seems to be the clear winner for the current Patreon poll!! Hachi seems like a good movie for me to just be completely wrecked. Haven't seen Ice Age, just small clips of a squirrel and his nut?

Verowak

-Superman (1978) -Insidious (2010) -Rush Hour (1998) Three different kinds, a classic superhero film, a supernatural horror film, and an action-comedy buddy cop film. All of which make for good reaction and commentary

Matt Peralta

Patriot is on my to watch list for war movies!! The other two I haven't seen... yet 😁

Verowak

I've never seen any of these, and have no idea what any of them are about. I think Amadeus is about... Mozart? All three interesting sounding movies!

Verowak

RRR and Hunt for Red October seem to be popular, they've been recommended too! Top Gun is something I want to watch, most likely once I finish Mission Impossible, so I continue on with Tom Cruise 🤣

Verowak

Yes, please go into it thinking that.

PapaXan

Can't go wrong with David Fincher, Zodiac is one I want to watch, and Benjamin Button, I know it's about a dude that ages backwards (I learned this from Hugh Jackman's opening song when he hosted the Oscars 😂). I also haven't seen American Graffiti, and it would be interesting to see a non-Star Wars Lucas film!!

Verowak

I've seen RRR recommended a lot, I just might have to watch it. Spinal Tap is one I need to watch, though I want to go in with 0 information. I just assume it has to do with a medical procedure 😁

Verowak

Those are the two animated ones, right? I have been wanting to watch them!!

Verowak

Have you seen the original Indiana Jones trilogy? (Ignore 4+5 for your own sanity.)

Bucky1138

My favorite movie franchise of all time is The Lord of the Rings, but I believe you have already seen those. There is the Xmen saga if you're wanting a dozen or so movies. The Green Mile is also another phenomenal movie; that and The Shawshank Redemption are, in my opinion, two of the best made movies ever.

Cassie Morton

* The Elephant Man (1980): Dir. by David Lynch starring John Hurt. Maybe Lynch's best directing effort IMHO. * Rear Window (1954): Dir. Alfred Hitchcock * Apocalypse Now (1979): Theatrical cut. I listed the theatrical cut, but there are 3 commercially available versions: Theatrical, Redux, and Final Cut. I prefer to recommend the Theatrical for 1st-time viewers because it's the tightest, most story-focused version. I still like Redux and Final Cut, but I think it's easier to appreciate these versions because I already know the story and the side-quests don't derail the narrative for me. But, with such a long story like this, I still think the more direct, Theatrical version is the best choice for someone new to the movie.

Ron
