Patreon Poll for July 1st reaction!
Added 2023-06-10 18:36:59 +0000 UTCIt's that time again... patreon poll time!!
So this reaction will be live on YT on July 1st, and I've chosen a theme for these movies. The theme is: War!
You can vote for as many movies as you would like, so pick all your favourites. I don't know anything about these movies aside from the fact that it's a war movie. No clue what the story is about, except I'm assuming Lone Survivor is about... well... a lone survivor. I also know that 1917 takes place during WW1.
Very excited to see how this poll goes, I know from the previous one that I cannot predict which one will win even if I tried.
The poll will end on June 22nd, 2023 so get your votes in!
Do you like war movies? Why or why not? I love the stories, but the gun sounds can get irritating after a while for me.

I will eventually watch all of these. Now that I know Hans Zimmer is the composer for Black Hawk Down... it may need to be bumped up the list🤩

2023-06-23 13:23:34 +0000 UTCLooks like you'll be missing out on more Hans Zimmer score since Black Hawk Down doesn't look like it's making it. Great movie though, hopefully you'll get there eventually!

2023-06-23 03:10:47 +0000 UTCOh yeah, I try my best to not cross the line into anything political. That's just opening up the comments to be even more heated than they are right now. For every genre or franchise, there are a bunch of people who will hate you if you think differently than them, which is pretty ridiculous. War movies have a very patriot aspect to them and some people think it's disgraceful if I don't keep certain parts of the movie in the edited reaction because of patriotism (even though I'm Canadian, and I don't think there are many Canadian war films?) A lot of people seem to assume I'm American and like to be angry at me for not praising aspects of American culture :/

2023-06-11 23:45:43 +0000 UTCThanks for the response. Yeah, when I mentioned about the change in attitude towards war movies in recent times with social media and how that attitude feels more "rah rah"--I was more thinking about the folks who leave comments and who request the movies, not so much the attitude of the people uploading reactions. That said, I can only imagine the pressure that reactors would have when watching anything remotely political. (I mean, crap. Even reacting to something Star Wars or Disney related these days is fraught with peril, as you're opening yourself up to trolls should you commit to sin of saying you like a movie you're "supposed to" hate.) With a war movie, it's probably easier to err on the side of caution and just sort of nod along.

2023-06-11 19:50:06 +0000 UTCIf it wins, I'm watching it subbed. Though I'll be looking to see what most reactors do, I might show the English dubbed version in my edit, but I'll be watching it in German with English subs. I'm not a fan of watching dubbed movies/tv series :D

2023-06-11 13:04:07 +0000 UTCI would love it if war movies deterred people from being violent. I feel there's a lot of hypocrisy and elitist behaviour when people are happy watching war movies and cheering for their country. I get it, there is obviously an enemy that is doing wrong in order to cause the war, but it doesn't mean that the other side is perfect and does no wrong. I have been enjoying war movies because it gives me a look into how things were/are during a war, so it helps me understand people better. I can't understand the full depth of it, of course, but I also hope that I never have to. My other issue with war movies is that they glorify aspects of war that I don't believe should be glorified. I know for my Saving Private Ryan reaction I said something like "Of course they're going to kill them" when referring to the PoW, and people were angry that I said that because it's a war crime to kill them when they surrender. Which I wasn't saying "yes kill them!" It was more of a "these people just watched this guy kill their medic, it feels to me that they won't all be forgiving". I think part of the problem with reactions, is that what we say can be taken the wrong way.

2023-06-11 13:02:31 +0000 UTCThat's the first time I hear of that movie. And if I had seen the name without knowing it's a war movie, I definitely would not have guessed it was a war movie lol

2023-06-11 12:55:51 +0000 UTCI'm just really curious to see the one long continuous shot (I just remembered I had heard that a while ago about 1917). War movies are not something I know much about, and I haven't heard of too many of them, especially some made before the 90s, so The Deer Hunter is a new one. Christopher Walken, Robert De Niro and Meryl Streep are in it, which sounds like it could be quite the movie!

2023-06-11 12:55:11 +0000 UTCAll quiet in my opinion is overall a better WW1 movie than 1917 (although amazing itself) the perspective and realism of All Quiet makes it one of the best War movies ever. Just make sure not to watch with the English dub, ruins it.

2023-06-11 04:59:24 +0000 UTCI had a more neutral opinion of war movies when I was younger. But I think I've been turned off to them in recent years. It feels like the way people engage with them these days (especially on Youtube with the reaction trend) is different from how people engaged with war movies, say, in the 80s/90s. It used to be that a movie might question the validity of a war, or raise questions about our nation's decisions. They could be thought-provoking in that way, and weren't necessarily inherently jingoistic. But nowadays it seems like people engage with them in a more "rah-rah," "love it or leave it" type of way. (Admittedly, this might be more an observation about recent trends in public discourse and social media than about the movies themselves.)

2023-06-10 20:13:15 +0000 UTCI'm not really attracted to the genre of war movies, they just come to me when I have the opportunity but when they do, most of them have a deep impact on me as it was the case with 1917. At the end of the movie, I literally burst into tears, something I had not experienced for a long time. The movie is quite a journey, I won't tell you why. One of my favourite war movies is "The Deer Hunter" from 1978. Hard-hitting experience to say the least.
