Looper (2012) * FULL LENGTH REACTION

It's Movie Reaction Wednesday time!!!

Holy crap am I glad that I watched this movie.  I was excited because there was time travel involved, but the story made it a million times better!

I would absolutely love to know what you guys think of this movie... it is in my top 10 movies for sure.  I feel like I have no idea what that list is, but it's definitely an excellent movie.

My biggest issue with this whole thing is that Joseph Gordon Levitt's face looks weird and I have no idea why.  The eyebrows?  The eyes?  Perhaps someone knows what's going on.

I do think that he's done a fantastic job with the character though.  His mannerisms and his speech were really, REALLY well done.

I love the concept and the fact that Rian Johnson has been putting ideas together for like a decade is pretty amazing too.

I'm definitely going to enjoy rewatching this while editing!!

Reminder that you need your own copy of the movie to watchalong, and that there is an extension that allows you to do Picture-in-Picture in case you are interested: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/picture-in-picture-extens/hkgfoiooedgoejojocmhlaklaeopbecg?hl=en

Looper (2012) * FULL LENGTH REACTION

Comments

I've been ruined in that... if I don't see a character die, I assume they'll come back. Off screen deaths make me doubt if they actually died 😂 Emily Blunt is great! I first saw her in Devil Wears Prada, then Edge of Tomorrow or Adjustment Bureau (I don't remember which was first). I so wish I hadn't seen Edge of Tomorrow, it would have been fun for reaction lol

The dismemberment was such a neat idea!!! A great way to show torture without actually showing it 😨 I think the fact that they stayed consistent throughout the movie makes it that much better. If they had changed the way their time travel works it probably would have stood out as not being so great.

THat's how I see time travel too. I don't get caught up in the plot holes, I just like seeing what they come up with and how they show it. I always thought I was picky and difficult when it came to movies, but I'm learning that that is not the case, I'm very lenient 😂

Such a great movie! Any excuse to rewatch it is a good excuse haha

I was a bit disappointed that Abe died offscreen, I feel his character deserved better. I’m a huge fan of Jeff Daniels, loved him in The Newsroom and The Martian, also Speed (but for very different reasons). Also a huge Emily Blunt fan, I mean who isn’t, right? I haven’t seen tons of her movies, but favourite character has to The Full Metal Bitch or more affectionately Rita from Edge of Tomorrow, favourite movie she’s in has to be The Quiet Place. I also seem to remember her being really good in The Devil Wears Prada.

The whole Seth dismemberment thing is straight up body horror to me, and probably creeps me out more than anything else horror movie related. It’s something to do with the shock/realisation with the old body and imagining the horrors taking place offscreen with the young body. Give me straight up slasher horror any day. I did like the fact they stayed seemingly consistent throughout the movie with the story physics and the slight delay in wounds appearing.

I realise this is way after the fact but I still wanted to leave a few comments. I don’t think this movie did all that well when it came out but I think it’s a great example of a time travel movie. I never worry too much about any plot holes when time travel is involved, mainly because I don’t think you could have a story that works at all if you choose not to reference/link the future and the past, and if you don’t, then why bother making it all, it probably won’t be much fun.

I’ve been meaning to rewatch Looper for a while now, and scrolling through your channel look what I found. Thank you for giving me the perfect excuse, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

A prosthetic would help make sense why he looked different! Oh yeah I forgot he was in 3rd Rock from the Sun!!! I watched it a bit when I was younger. He was so young lol!

Verowak

This is a good one. I think JGL had a prosthetic on his face to make him look more like Bruce Willis. Every time I see JGL in a movie I want to re-watch 3rd Rock from the Sun.

Yeah that was one thing that I pointed out since it doesn't make sense that Old Seth would suddenly lose his limbs. I tend to not think too much about the logistics and realism when it comes to time travel and a lot of sci-fi so I can just enjoy it lol. Aside from time travel not making sense all the time, it was very captivating!!

Verowak

Really enjoyed this film even if there's some time travel aspects that make no sense the deeper you look into it like Old Seth losing his limbs. For example If his leg gets cut off in the past, then it must effect the entire timeline so in theory he wouldn't be wearing a shoe in the first place throughout the car scene as he never had a leg. The time travel aspect of this movie is all over the place for how they want it to work but beyond this it's a fun watch, more show than tell.
