Ex Machina (2014) * FULL LENGTH REACTION

Movie Reaction Wednesday coming at you hot!!!

If you haven't seen this movie yet, it is SO worth it.  If you HAVE seen it, isn't it amazing?!

Really fun movie, and even better that it was low budget (15 million USD).  I love seeing really well made movies with a low budget, it shows what a good story and smart choices can do.

This is also the first video that has a sponsor with it, so when it releases on Saturday, it would be awesome if you could click the video for some views.  I would love to not have to have sponsorships, but alas, that's not the case... yet.

Watching my reaction while editing, I look too happy at the events that unfold sometimes.  That's just how it is, I guess πŸ˜‚

Reminder that you need your own copy of the movie to watchalong, and that there is an extension that allows you to do Picture-in-Picture in case you are interested: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/picture-in-picture-extens/hkgfoiooedgoejojocmhlaklaeopbecg?hl=en

Ex Machina (2014) * FULL LENGTH REACTION

Comments

I saw a promo, a trailer maybe, or something when it was coming out but I forget, I knew zero more that that :) For first time views I prefer to know next to nothing, just a description or trailer is enough. If I hear too much I will probably never get around to seeing it as I will write it off if it doesn't immediately otherwise appeal to me.

Did you go in not knowing much about it? I was just pretty sure it was about AI, no idea about it being thriller or suspense lol I really like how they had very different characters with different morals. It was very interesting to see their interaction and how they saw Ava!

Was not sure what to expect from this movie, first time seeing it. Well done, very enjoyable thriller. While I expected Nathan to foil any plans Caleb would have to run away with Ava, it was pretty apparent it was a setup, but honestly who could see that ending coming? Maybe Ava can move to Manhattan or some large city. Lots of intersections there to keep her busy for a while :)

A.I. was a movie that I've wanted to see but never got around to renting it. The only thing I know about it (aside from it being about AI) is that Haley Joel Osment is in it, and I don't want to know more πŸ˜‚ Will be fun to see if there are any actors that I know. Also the fact that it's a Spielberg movie puts it on my to watch list immediately.

Ooh very true! Duration is the best bet for sure. I'll try to do that and/or say what platform it's on

I'd like to add my voice to Jedi Mandalore's in suggesting a reaction for Spielberg's "A.I." Honestly, this is one of the most interesting and underrated movies Spielberg has ever done. It received lukewarm reception when it came out, and it's been largely forgotten about. But the world-building that is crammed into this one movie is mesmerizing. Yes, the narrative might feel a bit too unstructured to be satisfying, but I think that's because there are so many ideas in it, that the material would've been better suited for a high-budget TV series than a single movie. It came out in 2001, so obviously, the subject of A.I. was received a lot differently than it would be today. (I think audiences in 2001 were probably more prone to feel empathy towards fictional A.I., whereas we're living in a time when the very subject is scary and off-putting.) Regardless, it's worth a watch. (Also, when you see the Nanny robot, you can guess where later movies like "Ex Machina" got inspiration for the look of Ava.)

Saying the duration of the movie you are watching is in my opinion the best way to double check if we have the right copy along with saying what version of course.

Enjoy! It was such a great movie, really glad it won the poll!

I haven't seen many movies about AI, and a lot of the ones on your recommendations are on my list to watch! A.I., RoboCop, Terminator and Wall-E. I feel like I've heard the other two before but have no idea what they're about... yet. Even better that it's all available on YT, also weird how that's possible but I won't look a gift horse in the mouth! THank you!

I'll make some time to watch this next 😊

I always forget that Domhnall Gleeson is the son of Brendan Gleeson but films like this really remind you. Ex Machina is a great film love anything to do with artificial intelligence. Recommend: A.I. Artificial Intelligence - Steven Spielberg (Underrated) The Day the Earth Stood Still - Robert Wise (1951) Metropolis - Fritz Lang (1984 Restoration) RoboCop - Paul Verhoeven Terminator - James Cameron Wall-E - Andrew Stanton Metropolis was released all the way back in 1927 while in 1984 Giorgio Moroder created a restoration creating an original 1980s soundtrack with an range of artists colorized the film. I think there's a 2011 version as well but I can't recall, I've only see the original and the Giorgio Moroder version and I love both. Also this film has nothing to do with Superman lol But funny enough Metropolis from it's art direction did inspire the look of Gotham in the Burton films so that's cool. Can find the full movie on youtube so even if you don't react to it the film is a fun watch to see how people in the 1920s thought the future could hold for humanity. Metropolis (1927) - https://youtu.be/W_4no842TX8 Metropolis (1984) - https://youtu.be/CD-2I2BoSEg
