District 9 * FULL LENGTH REACTION

It's Wednesday again, my dudes, which means full length movie reaction time!!

The winner of the March Patreon poll is here.  Turns out there is a lot of shaky cam, which makes perfect sense for the style of movie.

There's a site where you can look up any movie for trigger warnings (animal death, flashing lights, emotional trauma, shaky cam, etc): https://www.doesthedogdie.com/

It's a very useful website!

I really love how they made this movie.  The visuals were extremely well done, the story is... umm, a little too accurate in regards to human nature, sadly.  The documentary style worked extremely well, as a way to explain the situation to the viewers.  The fingernail scene though... 😨 and then the teeth.  Those are the kinds of scenes that give me chills (in a bad way lol).

I feel like in the end, Wikus became a better person because he got infection, sort of saying that it took some alien DNA manipulation to make him a better person.  Then again, it could be seen as a situation where he only understood the struggles of the aliens once he was treated badly.

I just really liked how real this movie felt, since that could very well happen if aliens arrived.  I would love a sequel to this movie 3 years in the future to see what happens 😈

For full-length reactions, you need your own copy to watch the episode.  Also know there is an extension that allows you to do Picture-in-Picture in case you are interested: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/picture-in-picture-extens/hkgfoiooedgoejojocmhlaklaeopbecg?hl=en

There should be another Patreon Poll in the next few weeks, once I figure out how I want to do the poll :D

That's interesting, I didn't know "Man on Fire" has shaky cam/zoom. It was recommended a lot, and a movie that I have high on my list to watch. I'm tempted to watch it, but maybe I'll try to stand further away from the monitor. That usually helps with the shaky cam (the less % of my field of vision that it takes up, the better haha). Thank you for the heads up, I will probably give it a go, and hope for the best (or maybe take some anti-nausea medicine beforehand haha)

This is on Hulu right now so I just decided to check it out. It’s too bad you get motion sickness. There’s a Denzel film you’d love called “Man on Fire”. It is very similar to the Last of Us minus the infected. I’ve been tempted to suggest it however it would absolutely turn your stomach into ground beef. 🤢🤢🤢 it has this unfortunate shaky cam/zoom in and out quickly/change scenery trickery that runs throughout the film that even I have issues with. I wish there was a version without this effect for the Verosaurus Rex to enjoy🦖 because it would otherwise be perfect for the channel. As far as this film is concerned I liked it. Very different and a unique way to address South Africa’s not so distant past.

Yes! I really loved those movies. Way more than I would have ever expected!

I'm glad there wasn't too much self-mutilation basically, but they showed enough for us to get a feel for what was going on. I can watch shaky cam movies (to some extent) on the TV sitting on my couch since it's far enough away, but at my PC is a different story altogether lol That's awesome!! Pretty crazy though that they were massively overbooked on accommodations, but at least they did something about it instead of shrugging and saying "oops". While editing I kept thinking of Hunger Games, since they're all housed in districts, though I don't remember that district so perhaps they weren't very important :D

Yeah the medical and finger/teeth stuff had me looking away from the screen 😅 Thankfully there wasn't too much of it. The shaky-cam... There was a lot more than I remember, sorry that it made the movie more of a struggle for you. Kind-of-fun fact: there was a university here in the UK that had a period of time where they were massively overbooked on accommodation so had to build a temporary on-site village of portacabins that the students living there nicknamed District 9. https://thelinc.co.uk/2011/09/100-cabins-expected-for-temporary-festival-gardens-site/ The movie had been out for 2 years at that point so was still relatively fresh in all our minds.
