I love finding images that will make interesting backgrounds. I change them out at least once a month. They are almost always art by people I admire and subjects I obsess over, usually landing on either Star Wars or paleoart. It isn't just a landing page or conversation piece for anyone that might see it, but something that fits the mood I'm in, or is a achieving something artistically that I aspire to.
Sometimes throughout the day I'll find I don't need my computer for my current task or I need a break from the screen. At that point it's nice to close everything and be confronted with the background of my desktop, which I usually keep clean, and meditate on the artwork I've left myself there.
I may be old fashioned in this regard. Maybe you guys have generic backgrounds on your desktop, an old photo you haven't changed in years or a cool, neutral image that is literally just the background to all the icons and shortcuts of aps and folders, etc. And that is totally fine. You do you.
But on the off chance you are like me, and treat your desktop as a rotating one piece art gallery, I have a new one for you.
This one hasn't been shared widely on Social media. Only one or two of you may recognize it.
This is what we in the art world call a Trompe L'oeil. Essentially an optical illusion. This was done as an assignment in graduate school. One of the reasons I never shared it often was because I'm not happy with how it came out. While overall I regard it as a success, most of that comes from having completed it in the first place. The piece itself is huge (i forget exactly how big, one side was at least 30inches) and is done in gouache and represents the longest amount of time I've spent on a single image to date.
I thought it might make an interesting background for you guys. enjoy.
as always Thank you for being here. You matter to me. you being here helps remind me that I matter. Thank you.
